Baseball Card
A baseball card is a type of trading card relating to baseball, usually printed on cardboard, silk, or plastic. In the 1950s, they came with a stick of gum and a limited number of cards. These cards feature one or more baseball players, teams, stadiums, or celebrities. Baseball cards are most often found in the Contiguous United States but are also common in Puerto Rico or countries such as Canada, Cuba, South Korea and Japan, where top-level leagues are present with a substantial fan base to support them. Some notable companies producing baseball cards include Topps and Panini Group. Previous manufacturers include Fleer (now a brand name owned by Upper Deck Company, Upper Deck), Bowman Gum, Bowman (now a brand name owned by Topps), and Donruss (now a brand name owned by Panini). Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies are an American professional baseball team based in Philadelphia. The Phillies compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) East Division. Since 2004, the team's home stadium has been Citizens Bank Park, located in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. The National League approved a new franchise for Philadelphia to begin play in 1883, at its annual meeting in Providence on December 7, 1882. Ron Santo
Ronald Edward Santo (February 25, 1940 – December 3, 2010) was an American Major League Baseball (MLB) third baseman who played for the Chicago Cubs from 1960 through 1973 and the Chicago White Sox in 1974. In 1990, Santo became a member of the Cubs broadcasting team providing commentary for Cubs games on WGN (AM), WGN radio and remained at that position until his death in 2010. In 1999, he was selected to the Cubs All-Century Team. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012. Santo was an Major League Baseball All-Star Game, All-Star for nine seasons during his 15-year career. Julián Javier
Manuel Julián Javier Liranzo (; born August 9, 1936), is a Dominican former professional baseball second baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1960 to 1972, most prominently as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals where, he became a two-time All-Star player, and was a member of two World Series winning teams (, ). He played his final season with the Cincinnati Reds. A light-hitting defensive specialist, he was nicknamed "Hoolie" by his teammates, and "the Phantom" by teammate Tim McCarver for his ability to avoid baserunners sliding into second base. Javier was an integral figure in the history and development of baseball in the Dominican Republic, founding multiple baseball leagues as well as the Gigantes del Cibao of the Dominican Winter League. Jim Gentile
James Edward Gentile (born June 3, 1934), also nicknamed "Diamond Jim", is an American former professional baseball first baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Brooklyn / Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Athletics, Houston Astros, and Cleveland Indians between 1957 and 1966. He was an All-Star from 1961-63, and third in American League MVP voting in 1961. Early life Gentile was born on June 3, 1934, in San Francisco, California. He attended Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory School, graduating in 1952. He was both a top pitcher and hitter on its baseball team. Jimmie Coker
Jimmie Goodwin Coker (March 28, 1936 – October 29, 1991) was an American professional baseball catcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies (, –), San Francisco Giants (), and Cincinnati Reds (–). A native of Holly Hill, South Carolina, Coker was the son of David and Leola Coker. He played football and basketball for Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, before signing as an amateur free agent in February 1955, with the Phillies. Coker spent all or parts of nine years in the National League (NL). Jim Perry (baseball)
James Evan Perry Jr. (born October 30, 1935) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He pitched in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1959 to 1975 for the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, and Oakland Athletics. During a 17-year baseball career, Perry compiled 215 wins, 1,576 strikeouts, and a 3.45 earned run average. He won the Cy Young Award in 1970 and was a three-time MLB All-Star. He and his younger brother Gaylord Perry, who were Cleveland teammates in 1974–1975, became the first brothers to both win 200 games in the major leagues, and remain the only brothers to both win Cy Young Awards. Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles (also known as the O's) are an American professional baseball team based in Baltimore. Willie Tasby Jr. (January 8, 1933 – April 3, 2022) was an American outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) who appeared in 583 games as a member of the Baltimore Orioles (–), Boston Red Sox (1960), Washington Senators (–) and Cleveland Indians (1962–). He was primarily a center fielder, with 459 of his 545 career defensive appearances at the position.
