Tonight In Canberra
''Tonight in Canberra'' was a short-lived Australian television series which aired in 1968 on Canberra station CTC-7. Running from April to August, it aired Mondays at 10:05PM. The series presented a mix of interviews and variety acts. It was hosted by David Brice, who was assisted by Steve Liebmann. CTC (TV Station)
CTC is a television station in Canberra, Australia. The station was the tenth to begin transmission in regional Australia, and the 26th station in Australia as a whole. CTC has an affiliation agreement to show content from Network 10. Just as it has had a number of owners, CTC has also had many different identities on-air – including CTC-TV, Super 7, Capital 7, 10 TV Australia, Capital Television, Ten Capital, Southern Cross Ten, Channel 9 and Channel 10. History Origins The station's history can be traced back to 19 May 1958, when ''Canberra Television Limited'' (or CTL), a public company, was formed by executives of The Federal Capital Press of Australia Pty. Tom Lewis (Australian Politician)
Thomas Lancelot Lewis (23 January 1922 – 25 April 2016) was a New South Wales politician, Premier of New South Wales and minister in the cabinets of Sir Robert Askin and Sir Eric Willis. He became Premier following Askin's retirement from politics and held the position until he was replaced by Willis in a party vote. Lewis was first elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the Electoral district of Wollondilly for the Liberal Party in 1957, and served until his resignation in 1978. Early life He was born in Adelaide, the son of Lancelot Ashley and Gretta Lewis, and was educated at St Peter's College, Adelaide, from 1931 to 1940. Subsequently, he managed the property of his uncle, Essington Lewis, Managing Director of BHP and Director-General of Munitions during World War II. Jim Pead
James Harold Pead (3 April 1924 – 15 November 2009) was an Australian politician. ACT politics He was an independent member of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly for Canberra from 1975 to 1979, and then elected from the same electorate for the renamed House of Assembly from 1979 to 1982. He served as the first President of the Assembly from 1975 to 1979. Previously he had served on the predecessor body the Australian Capital Territory Advisory Council from 1955 to 1974, acting as president from 1964. Pead helped establish the Yarralumla Progress Association in the early 1950s, which led to his involvement in the Australian Capital Territory Progress and Welfare Council, and was elected as a Progress candidate from 1955 until it dissolved in the mid 1960s. ''In Melbourne Tonight'', also known as ''IMT'', was a highly popular nightly Logie award-winning Australian variety television show produced at GTV-9 Melbourne from 6 May 1957 to 1970. Overview Graham Kennedy was the show's main host and star attraction, but other presenters were often called on to present the show on certain nights. ''In Melbourne Tonight'' had as many as 50 different presenters over its 13 years on air. The format of the show was inspired by the American ''Tonight Show'' on NBC, but Kennedy's exuberant charisma was the key to the success of ''IMT''. The show originally had its own self-titled theme song, written by ''IMT'' first band leader, Lee Gallagher, but for most of its run, it adopted the tune of ''Gee, But You're Swell'', written by Abel Baer and Charles Tobias in 1936. ''Sydney Tonight'' was an Australian television variety series which aired from December 1956 to early 1959 on Sydney station ATN-7. Originally compered by Keith Walshe, it was later hosted by Roy Hampson and re-titled ''Tonight''. The series featured a format including guests, interviews, audience participation, and music. Like ''In Melbourne Tonight'', which came later, it was patterned on the groundbreaking U.S. series ''Tonight Starring Steve Allen''. In October 1958, station ATN-7 experimented by using video-tape recordings of ''Sydney Tonight'' segments as part of their morning line-up.
