Steven Patrick Morrissey ( ; born 22 May 1959), known :wikt:mononym, mononymously as Morrissey, is an English singer and songwriter. He came to prominence as the frontman and lyricist of rock band the Smiths, who were active from 1982 to 1987. Since then, he has pursued a successful solo career. Morrissey's music is characterised by his baritone voice and distinctive lyrics with recurring themes of emotional isolation, sexual longing, self-deprecating and dark humour, and anti-establishment stances. Gary Edward William Day (born 27 June 1965) is a British musician who played Bass guitar, bass for Morrissey, The Nitros, Carlos and the Bandidos, The Poncés and Dante's Eyes. Music career Day originally played for Morrissey from 1990, and after rehearsals played through 1991 on the Kill Uncle tour, recording sessions followed for singles and the 1992 album Your Arsenal, and the tour promotion through 1992, but was fired in 1994. He was then re-hired in 1999 for Morrissey's ¡Oye Esteban! Tour, ¡Oye Esteban! tour, and the "You Are Quarry" album singles and tour. He remained the band's bassist until he parted ways at the end of the Ringleader of the Tormentors, Ringleader Of The Tormentors album and tour in 2006, to spend time with his family and to work on his material. ''Your Arsenal'' is the third studio album by English singer Morrissey, released on 27 July 1992 by record label His Master's Voice. The album received critical acclaim and reached number 4 on the UK Albums Chart. Content Morrissey had been rehearsing with a new band prior to the release of ''Your Arsenal'', which was the first official album of this new line-up. Commencing with "You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side", the album represents a clear change in direction for Morrissey from indie pop to a more muscular rock sound; with some elements of rockabilly. "Certain People I Know" is a song by English singer-songwriter Morrissey, released in December 1992 as the third single from his third studio album, ''Your Arsenal'' (1992). It was the third and final Morrissey single to be produced by glam rock musician Mick Ronson. Reaching number 35 in the UK Singles Chart, the song had the distinction of being Morrissey's lowest-charting solo single up to that point. "Certain People I Know" was the first Morrissey single to be released following the singer's bottling off stage at the Madstock festival when he supported Madness and the subsequent ''NME'' story regarding his alleged racism.
