''Tomek in the Land of Kangaroos'' () is a youth adventure novel by Alfred Szklarski, in 1957. It tells about the hunting expedition into Australia of Tomek Wilmowski and his father. It is the first book in the series. Plot The story takes place in 1902. Tomek Wilmowski, a 14-year-old Polish boy is a student of a Warsaw gymnasium. Tomek is an emigrant who has to flee from the country that is under Russian occupation. Friend of Andrzej Wimowski, Jan Smuga is an explorer and Andrzej Wilmowski's friend that comes to Warsaw. Alfred Szklarski
Alfred Szklarski (; 21 January 1912 – 9 April 1992) was a Polish author of youth literature. He also published his books under the pseudonyms Alfred Bronowski, Fred Garland and Alfred Murawski. Biography Szklarski was born in Chicago, Illinois, United States, as the son of an émigré and journalist, Andrzej Szklarski, and Maria née Markosik. He started school in Chicago but he moved to Poland with his father in 1926. At first he lived in Włocławek where he continued his education. Then in 1932 he moved to Warsaw where he studied at the Academy of Political Sciences until 1938. The graduation paved the way for his diplomatic career but his plans were interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. Szklarski stayed in the Polish capital during the German occupation. He joined the Armia Krajowa resistance and took part in the Warsaw Uprising as a volunteer rifleman. Tomek Wilmowski is a series of nine youth adventure novels written by Polish author Alfred Szklarski. The original series was published from 1957 to 1994. The last book, written by Maciej Dudziak, was published in 2021. The title character, young traveler Tomek Wilmowski is the main protagonist of the novels. The books are stories about his adventures in different countries of the world. They are set in the beginning of 20th century.
