Tom Elliot (rugby Union, Born 1880)
Tom Elliot (10 April 1880 – 28 November 1948) was a Scotland international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career Elliot played for Gala, first playing for the club in 1899. The Gala 7s side, including Elliot, got to the Hawick Sevens final of 1904, but Hawick beat them in the final. The ''Hawick News and Border Chronicle'' of 22 April 1904 noting: That Gala were kept mostly on the defensive; and Tom Elliot did not get much chance of a sprint. As runners up, the Gala players were given kit bags. The Gala XV side won the Border League in 1905. Elliot was a mainstay in the Gala side until 1909. Provincial career He was capped by South of Scotland District. He did not make the side in their 23 December 1905 match against the Anglo-Scots and J. Bunyan of Melrose had to take his place. Langholm RFC
Langholm Rugby Football Club are a rugby union team founded in 1871. They play their home games at Milntown, Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway. The team currently play in the East Regional League Division Two following relegation from East Regional League Division One at the end of the 2014–15 season. Langholm Sevens The Langholm Sevens tournament is hosted by the club. It held around the end of April each year and is part of the Borders Sevens Circuit. The tournament first started in 1908. The British Newspaper Archive web site provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London, until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. This is partly because of the legal deposit legislation of 1869, which required newspapers to supply a copy of each edition of a newspaper to the library. London editions of national daily and Sunday newspapers are complete back to 1801. In total, the collection consists of 660,000 bound volumes and 370,000 reels of microfilm containing tens of millions of newspapers with 52,000 titles on 45 km of shelves. Scottish Exiles is a rugby union representative team featuring players selected from the Scottish diaspora. Its players were mainly based in England and as result the team was originally known as the Anglo-Scots. The team competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. Formation Formed as the Anglo-Scots it was treated by the Scottish Rugby Union as a distinct non-native District side. Hawick RFC
Hawick Rugby Football Club is an semi-pro rugby union side, currently playing in the Scottish Premiership and Border League. The club was founded in 1885 and are based at Mansfield Park at Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Splinter from Hawick and Wilton RFC The premier club of Hawick was Hawick and Wilton RFC. This was formed by the Hawick and Wilton Cricket Club members as a sport to play in the winter. It ran the Hawick and Wilton Sevens; the fourth oldest rugby sevens tournament in the world (behind Melrose 883 Gala pril 1884and Selkirk Cricket Club ay 1884. For the members of Hawick and Wilton RFC however cricket came first and this led to the splinter club of Hawick RFC forming in 1885. Hawick and Wilton RFC continued on after Hawick RFC formed as rivals; and for a time both the Hawick and Wilton Sevens and the later Hawick Sevens co-existed.
