Together For Catalonia (2020)
Together for Catalonia (, JxCat), frequently shortened to Junts, is a Catalan nationalist and pro-independence political party that sits on the centre-right of the political spectrum. It is the second-largest party in the Parliament of Catalonia, holding 35 of the 135 seats. The current party president since 2024 is Carles Puigdemont. Junts was established in July 2020 by former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont, as a result of his rupture with the Catalan nationalist Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT). The party adopted the name of the homonym alliance, founded in 2017 and held its founding congress between 25 July and 3 October 2020. The party soon divided between the most moderate separatist faction formed by former members of the PDeCAT and those more radical who came from the civil society. Parliament Of Catalonia
The Parliament of Catalonia (, ; ; ) is the Unicameralism, unicameral legislature of the Autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community of Catalonia. The Parliament is currently made up of 135 members, known as Deputy (legislator), deputies (//), who are elected for four-year terms or after extraordinary dissolution, chosen by universal suffrage in lists of four constituencies, corresponding to the Catalan provinces. Carles Puigdemont
Carles Puigdemont i Casamajó (; born 29 December 1962) is a Catalan politician and journalist from Spain. He has been the President of Together for Catalonia (Junts) since 2024, having previously held the office from 2020 to 2022. He served as the 130th President of the Government of Catalonia from 2016 to 2017. His government held an independence referendum, which culminated in the unsuccessful Declaration of independence of Catalonia and his removal from office. He then served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2019 to 2024. The Greens–Green Alternative
The Greens–Green Alternative (, EV–AV) is a political party based in Catalonia, founded in September 1999 by former members of The Greens–Ecologist Confederation of Catalonia (EV–CEC), after the party had split in March 1998 over the type of relationship to establish with the newly-autonomous Initiative for Catalonia (IC). In January 2015, EV–AV joined the "Constituent Call" platform promoted by the Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP), though for the 2015 Catalan regional election they gave support to the Junts pel Sí candidacy. Action for the Republic (, AxR) is a Catalan nationalist and progressive political party in Catalonia, founded by independent deputies of the Parliament of Catalonia grouped into the Together for the Republic (, JuntsxRep) internal current within the Together for Catalonia (JxCat) alliance. Together For Catalonia (2017)
Together for Catalonia (, JxCat, also JuntsxCat) was an electoral and parliamentary alliance in Catalonia, registered as a political party in the interior ministry in July 2018, originally envisaged as a platform comprising the Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT), successor of the late Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC), and independents and centered around the candidacy of former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont ahead of the 2017 Catalan regional election. Some of these independents went on to form the Action for the Republic (AxR) political party, which is also part of the alliance in the Parliament of Catalonia.
