Tirari Desert
The Tirari Desert is a desert in the eastern part of the Far North region of South Australia. It stretches 212 km from north to south and 153 km from east to west. Location and description The Tirari Desert features salt lakes and large north–south running sand dunes. It is located partly within the Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre National Park. It lies mainly to the east of Lake Eyre North. Cooper Creek runs through the centre of the desert. The adjacent deserts of the area include Simpson Desert which lies to the north while the Strzelecki Desert is to the east and the Sturt Stony Desert runs aligned with the Birdsville track to the north east. The desert experiences harsh conditions with high temperatures and very low rainfall (mean annual rainfall is below ). ''Zygochloa'' is a genus of desert plants in the grass family known only from Australia. The only known species is ''Zygochloa paradoxa'', commonly known as sandhill canegrass. It occurs in extremely arid areas such as the Simpson Desert. Description ''Zygochloa paradoxa'' is a dense, green, bushy perennial tall, wide, that forms tussocks or hummocks. Etadunna Station
Etadunna is a pastoral lease in the Australian state of South Australia located in the gazetted locality of Etadunna and which is operating as a cattle station. In about 1867, German Lutheran missionaries J. F. Gossling and E. Homann, Brother Johann Ernst Jacob and lay-helper Hermann Heinrich Vogelsang (1832–1913), established Bethesda Mission at Lake Killalpaninna, which was extended to include two outstations, Kopperamanna, on the shore of Lake Kopperamanna, and Etadunna nearly twenty kilometres to the east of Bethesda. In 1872 Kopperamanna was listed as a postal town and remained so for many years. However, in July the police station was closed and troopers transferred to other postings. Dulkaninna
Dulkaninna Station is a pastoral lease that once operated as a sheep station but now operates as a cattle station in outback South Australia. It is along the Birdsville Track approximately north of Marree at the southern end of the Tirari Desert. The property is composed of a variety of land systems including gibber plains, black soil flood plains, sand-hill country, table land country and creek systems. Lake Gregory is in the north-east corner of the property. It shares a boundary with Clayton Station to the south-west, Murnpeowie to the south-east and Etadunna Station to the north. The property occupies an area of and runs beef cattle; it is a certified organic producer. The Bell family own the property and have down so for over 110 years.
