Tipu Sultan
Tipu Sultan (born Sultan Fateh Ali Sahab Tipu, 1 December 1751 – 4 May 1799), also known as the Tiger of Mysore, was the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore based in South India. He was a pioneer of rocket artillery.Dalrymple, p. 243 He introduced a number of administrative innovations during his rule, including a new coinage system and calendar, and a new land revenue system, which initiated the growth of the Mysore silk industry. He expanded the iron-cased Mysorean rockets and commissioned the military manual '' Fathul Mujahidin''. Tipu Sultan (journalist)
Tipu Sultan (born c. 1973) is a Bangladeshi freelance investigative journalist who received the CPJ International Press Freedom Award in 2002. He was the victim of a widely publicised attack instigated by a local politician that almost cost him his life. 2001 assault case In January 2001, Tipu Sultan was working in Feni District where he investigated an arson attack on the Sultana Memorial Junior Girls School in Omarpur. The school that had just been completed. On 17 January, he filed a report for United News of Bangladesh, an independent wire service, implicating Joynal Hazari, an Awami League Member of Parliament nicknamed "the Godfather of Feni". On 25 January 8 days after his report on the destruction of the school, a group of approximately fifteen masked men abducted Sultan. Khan Tipu Sultan (13 December 1950 – 19 August 2017) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and three time Jatiya Sangsad member from Jessore-5 constituency. Early life Sultan was born in Dhamalia, Dumuria Upazila, Khulna District in the then East Bengal, Pakistan. He studied at the Sanmilani Institution in Jessore. He served as the General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League unit of Jessore District. Career Sultan was involved in the 1969 student protests. He also led protests against Nurul Amin visiting Jessore. He was sued by the military government of Pakistan and imprisoned. He was released after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman asked General Yahya Khan to release him following the 1970 general elections in Pakistan. ''Tipu Sultan Kanda Kanasu'' (English: ''The Dreams of Tipu Sultan'') is a 1997 Kannada play written by Girish Karnad. The play has been performed many times by different groups around the world but mostly in India and Pakistan. The story follows the last days as well as the historic moments in the life of the Ruler of Mysore, Tipu Sultan, (1750–1799) through the eyes of an Indian court historian and a British Oriental scholar. Girish Karnad's play is based on a Farsi manuscript written by Tipu Sultan in his own handwriting preserved in the India Office Library. It was later translated and published as ''The Dreams of Tipu Sultan''. In this text, Tipu Sultan recorded some of his dreams from 1785 to 1798. Several of the dreams are about defeating the unbelievers, the Marathas and the Nazarenes (i.e, the English), and visions of the Prophet, the companions of the Prophet and Islamic sages. ' ''The Sword of Tipu Sultan'' is an Indian historical drama that was first broadcast on the DD National in February 1990. Based on a novel by Bhagwan Gidwani, this drama was a portrayal of the life and times of Tipu Sultan, the 18th century ruler of Kingdom of Mysore, Mysore, the series was widely praised for its casting and grandeur. The drama faced many obstacles including a major fire that burnt down the Premier Studios, Mysore and claimed 62 lives. Production The television drama was produced by the company ''Numero Uno International'' owned by movie director and producer Sanjay Khan. Akbar Khan, Sanjay Khan's brother, directed the first 20 episodes over a span of 18 months. The remaining episodes were directed by Sanjay Khan, and he also played the leading role of Tipu Sultan. Tipu Sultan's Mausoleum
The Gumbaz at Srirangapattana is a Muslim mausoleum at the centre of a landscaped garden, holding the graves of Tippu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali, and his mother Fakhr-Un-Nisa. It was built by Tippu Sultan to house the graves of his parents. The British allowed Tippu to be buried here after his martyrdom in the Siege of Srirangapatna in 1799. History The Gumbaz was raised by Tipu Sultan in 1782-84 at Srirangapattana to serve as a mausoleum for his father and mother. The mausoleum was surrounded by a cypress garden which is said to have different species of flowering trees and plants collected by Tippu Sultan from Persia, Ottoman Turkey, Kabul and French Mauritius. The original carved doors of the mausoleum have been removed and are now displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace
Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace, in Bangalore, India, is an example of Indo-Islamic architecture and was the summer residence of the Mysorean ruler Tipu Sultan. Hyder Ali commenced its construction within the walls of the Bangalore Fort, and it was completed during the reign of Tipu Sultan in 1791. After Tipu Sultan's death in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, the British Administration used the palace for its secretariat before moving to Attara Kacheri in 1868. Today the Archaeological Survey of India maintains the palace, which is located at the center of Old Bangalore near the Kalasipalya bus stand, as a tourist spot. Entry fee is 20 for Indian citizens, while for foreign visitors is . The structure was built entirely teak and stands adorned with pillars, arches and balconies. The Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque (also known as Tipu Sultan Masjid) is a famous mosque in Kolkata, India named after Tipu Sultan the ruler of Mysore. Located at 185 Dharamtalla Street, the mosque is a relic of architectural and cultural heritage. Construction This building was built in 1842 by Prince Ghulam Mohammed, the youngest son of Tipu Sultan. An identical mosque, which was earlier built in 1835 by him is at Tollygunge. The Ghulam Mohammed Wakf Estate manages the two mosques now. At first, Ghulam Mohammed used his own money to purchase a land in the central area of Calcutta and Built this mosque in 1842, in memory of his father Tipu Sultan. A news was also published on the occasion of the purchase. This mosque is a relic of the architectural and cultural heritage of Kolkata.
