Timachi
The Timachi were a Thracian tribe in living by present-day Timok (river), Timok, Serbia, then part of Moesia Inferior (87 AD). It may have been an artificial creation by the Romans. Roman Serbia
The territory of the modern state of Serbia was part of the Roman Empire and later the Byzantine Empire, Eastern Roman Empire. In particular, the region of Central Serbia was under Roman rule for about 800 years (with interruptions), starting from the 1st century BC, interrupted by the History of the Balkans, arrival of the Slavs into the Balkans during the 6th century, but continued after fall of the First Bulgarian Empire in the early 11th century and permanently ended with the rise of the Second Bulgarian Empire in the late 12th century. Timok (river)
The Timok (Serbian and Bulgarian: Тимок; ), sometimes also known as Great Timok (; ), is a river in eastern Serbia, a right tributary of the Danube. For the last 15 km of its run it forms a border between eastern Serbia and western Bulgaria. It is a branchy system of many shorter rivers, many of them having the same name (Timok), only clarified with adjectives. The best known cultural archaeological discoveries from the prehistoric period on the territory of modern-day Serbia are the Starčevo and Vinča cultures dating back to 6400–6200 BC. Tricornenses
The Tricornenses of Tricornum (modern Ritopek) were a Romanized Thraco-Celtic artificially created community by the Romans that replaced the Celtic Celegeri.J. J. Wilkes, ''The Illyrians'', 1992, , p. 217. The inhabitants of Tricornum were Celtic and Thracian, attested by epigraphic sources. After 6 AD, the Tricornenses were one of the four units of Upper Moesia alongside the Dardani, Moesi and Picenses. Veliko Gradište ( sr-cyr, Велико Градиште, ; ) is a town and municipality located in the Braničevo District of eastern Serbia. Moesi
In Roman literature of the early 1st century CE, the Moesi ( or ; , ''Moisoí'' or Μυσοί, ''Mysoí''; or ''Moesae'') appear as a Paleo-Balkan people who lived in the region around the Timok River to the south of the Danube. The Moesi do not appear in ancient sources before Augustus's death in 14 CE and are mentioned only by three authors dealing with the Roman warfare in the region and the ethnonymic situation between mid-1st century BC and mid-1st century CE: Ovid, Strabo and Livy. Recent research suggests that a Paleo-Balkan people known as the ''Moesi'' never actually existed but the name was transplanted from Asia Minor Mysians to the Balkans by the Romans as an alternative name for the people who lived in the later province of Moesia Superior as Dardani communities. Celegeri were a CelticJ. J. Wilkes, The Illyrians, 1992, , p. 217. tribe, together with the Dindari a branch of the Scordisci that migrated to Illyria after the Gallic invasion of the Balkans in 279 BC. They inhabited Moesia Superior (modern Central Serbia), and are registered by Pliny as living between the Dardanoi and the Triballi. They appear in north-westernmost Thrace in the 1st century BC. Dardanians (Balkans)
The Dardani (; ; ) or Dardanians were a Paleo-Balkan people, who lived in a region that was named Dardania after their settlement there. They were among the oldest Balkan peoples, and their society was very complex. The Dardani were the most stable and conservative ethnic element among the peoples of the central Balkans, retaining an enduring presence in the region for several centuries.
