Tikhov (lunar Crater)
Tikhov is an eroded Lunar craters, lunar impact crater on the Moon's Far side (Moon), far side. It is nearly attached to the east-southeastern outer rim of the larger crater Avogadro (crater), Avogadro. About one crater diameter the east-northeast of Tikhov is the equally worn crater Emden (crater), Emden, and to south-southeast lies the younger Tsinger (crater), Tsinger. This feature has been battered by subsequent impacts, leaving a series of smaller craters along the rim, inner wall, and floor of the crater. The most recent of these impacts are several small, cup-shaped craters along the eastern rim and inner wall and floor. As a result of this wear, the outer rim is rounded and uneven, although the circular nature of the rim can still be discerned. Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is a NASA robotic spacecraft currently orbiting the Moon in an eccentric Polar orbit, polar mapping orbit. Data collected by LRO have been described as essential for planning NASA's future human and robotic missions to the Moon. Its detailed mapping program is identifying safe landing sites, locating potential resources on the Moon, characterizing the radiation environment, and demonstrating new technologies. Launched on June 18, 2009, in conjunction with the LCROSS, Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS), as the vanguard of NASA's Lunar Precursor Robotic Program, LRO was the first United States mission to the Moon in over ten years. Gavriil Adrianovich Tikhov (, 1 May 1875 – 25 January 1960) was a Soviet astronomer who was a pioneer in astrobiology and is considered to be the father of astrobotany. He worked as an observer at the Pulkovo Observatory from 1906 until 1941. After undertaking an expedition to Alma-Ata to observe the solar eclipse of September 21, 1941, he remained and became one of the founders of the Kamenskoe Plateau Observatory, the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute, and the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences. G. A. Tikhov was born in Smolevichy, near Minsk, in the family of a railway employee, the family often moved from place to place. Avogadro (crater)
Avogadro is an ancient lunar impact crater that is located in the northern hemisphere on the far side of the Moon. The formation has been heavily worn and eroded by subsequent impacts, so that the rim is now little more than a rounded edge surrounding the crater depression. The crater floor is equally worn, being covered in a multitude of smaller craters of various sizes. Many of these smaller craters have also been eroded, leaving little more than a faint trace on the surface. Nearby craters of note include Tikhov, which is nearly attached to the southeast rim, Oberth to the west, and Schjellerup to the north-northwest. Far Side (Moon)
The far side of the Moon is the hemisphere of the Moon that is facing away from Earth, the opposite hemisphere is the Near side of the Moon, near side. It always has the same surface oriented away from Earth because of synchronous rotation in the Moon's Orbit of the Moon, orbit.
