Tichborne Baronets
There have been two baronetcies created for persons with the surname Tichborne, both in the Baronetage of England. Both creations are extinct. The Tichborne Baronetcy, of Tichborne in the County of Hampshire, was created in the Baronetage of England on 8 March 1621 for Sir Benjamin Tichborne, 1st Baronet, Sir Benjamin Tichborne, who was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Petersfield (UK Parliament constituency), Petersfield from 1588 to 1589 and for Hampshire (UK Parliament constituency), Hampshire in 1593. It became extinct at the death of the 14th baronet in 1968. The Tichborne Baronetcy, of Beaulieu in County Louth, was created in the Baronetage of England on 12 July 1697 for Henry Tichborne, 1st Baron Ferrard, Henry Tichborne, the great-grandson of Sir Benjamin. He was ennobled in 1715 as Baron Ferrard of Beaulieu, with which title the baronetcy then merged until its extinction in 1731. Baronetage Of England
Baronets are hereditary titles awarded by the Crown. The current baronetage of the United Kingdom has replaced the earlier, existing baronetages of England, Nova Scotia, Ireland and Great Britain. To be recognised as a baronet, it is necessary to prove a claim of succession. When this has been done, the name is entered on the Official Roll of the Baronetage. Persons who have not proven their claims may not be officially styled as baronets. This was ordained by Royal warrant (document), Royal Warrant in February 1910. A baronetcy is considered vacant if the previous holder has died within the previous five years and if no one has proven their succession, and is considered dormant if no one has proven their succession in more than five years after the death of the previous incumbent. Tichborne Dole
The Tichborne Dole is a traditional English festival of charity which is held in the village of Tichborne, Hampshire, during the Feast of the Annunciation. The festival is centered on the handing out of donations of flour, which have been blessed by the local parish priest, from the front of Tichborne House. The festival dates back to the 12th century () and was started by Lady Mabella Tichborne who, on her death bed, instructed that a donation of farm produce be made to the poor each year. Henry Tichborne (6 September 1756 – 14 June 1821) was the 7th Baronet Tichborne of Tichborne in Hampshire. John Hermengil Tichborne, 5th Baronet
John Hermengil Tichborne (1679 – 5 May 1748) was a Jesuit priest and the 5th Baronet Tichborne. He succeeded to the title on the death of his older brother Henry Joseph Tichborne, the 4th Baronet in 1743. Sir Henry Joseph Tichborne (1655 – 15 July 1743) was the Tichborne baronets, 4th Baronet of the Tichborne baronets. He inherited the title in 1689 on the death of his father. Sir Henry Tichborne, 3rd Baronet ( – April 1689) was a Hampshire landowner and Roman Catholic baronet of the later Stuart period. Early life He was the son of Sir Richard Tichborne, the second baronet (1578–1657), and Helen, his first wife and the daughter and co-heir of Robert White of Aldershot in Hampshire.
