Low Franconian Languages
In historical and comparative linguistics, Low Franconian is a linguistic category used to classify a number of historical and contemporary West Germanic varieties closely related to, and including, the Dutch language. Most dialects and languages included within this category are spoken in the Netherlands, northern Belgium (Flanders), in the Nord department of France, in western Germany (Lower Rhine), as well as in Suriname, South Africa and Namibia. Terminology ''Low Franconian'' is a purely linguistic category and not used as a term of self-designation among any of the speakers of the Germanic dialects traditionally grouped within it. Fritz Thyssen
Friedrich "Fritz" Thyssen (9 November 1873 – 8 February 1951) was a German businessman, born into one of Germany's leading industrial families. He was an early supporter and financial backer of the Nazi Party but later broke with it. He was arrested in 1941 and was confined in Nazi concentration camps. Liberated at the end of the war in Europe, he was found to be a "lesser offender" in denazification proceedings and was fined. He emigrated to Argentina in 1950 where he died. Youth Thyssen was born in Mülheim in the Ruhr area. His father, August, was head of the Thyssen mining and steelmaking company, founded by his father Friedrich and based in the Ruhr city of Duisburg. Friedrich studied mining and metallurgy in London, Liège, and Berlin, and after a short period in the German Army, joined the family business. Thyssen was a major German steel producer founded by August Thyssen. The company merged with Friedrich Krupp AG Hoesch-Krupp to form ThyssenKrupp in 1999. History On 29 September 1891, August Thyssen and his brother Joseph Thyssen came to be in possession of all shares of ''Gewerkschaft Deutscher Kaiser'', a coal mining company. On 17 December 1891, the steelworks of the same company opened in Hamborn (today part of Duisburg). Subsequently, the plant was modernized and expanded by August Thyssen, becoming a vertically integrated company producing iron and steel and manufacturing ships, machines etc. After the First World War came the occupation of the Ruhr and the loss of many foreign interests; however the company remained viable. Germaine Thyssens-Valentin (27 July 1902 – 7 July 1987) was a Dutch-born classical pianist of Franco-Dutch parentage, noted for her performances of French music. She studied under Gabriel Fauré at the Paris Conservatoire, and in the 1950s, after a long absence from performing while she raised a family of five children, she recorded a series of discs of Fauré's music that have been reissued on compact disc to considerable acclaim. Bodo Thyssen
Bodo Thyssen (1918–2004) was a German industrialist and medical doctor, son of Hans Thyssen and grandson of Josef Thyssen, the younger brother of August Thyssen. His businesses included Telefonbau & Normalzeit, Thyssen-Heizkessel and Melderwerke. In 1969 he married Renate Thyssen-Henne (''née'' Kerkhoff), whom he later divorced, without issue, though his stepdaughter Gabriele and stepson Joachim had taken his surname. At the beginning of the 1970s, Bodo Thyssen and his wife Renate Thyssen established the "Thyssen Privatklinik" in Prien by the Chiemsee lake. Thyssen died in 2004.
