Three Of A Kind (1967 TV Series)
Three of a Kind is a British comedy sketch and music television show starring Mike Yarwood, Ray Fell and Lulu. Two series were shown by the BBC during 1967. Although successful, Yarwood turned down a third series as he hoped to follow Lulu in getting a series of his own. He went on to become one of the biggest stars of the 1970s. Lulu said in her autobiography that she enjoyed working on the show, but wasn't comfortable with comedy. Three Of A Kind (1981 TV Series)
''Three of a Kind'' is a British comedy sketch show starring comedians Tracey Ullman, Lenny Henry and David Copperfield. Three series were made by the BBC between 1981 and 1983. The show bolstered the careers of Ullman and Henry, as well as being an outlet for young writers including Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, Ian Hislop and Nick Revell. Ullman and Henry went on to greater success after the show, with Ullman initially launching a brief but successful pop career in 1983 before starring in the ITV sitcom '' Girls on Top'' in 1985 and then going on to a career on American television. Henry was given his own BBC series '' The Lenny Henry Show'' in 1984, which ran in various iterations until 2005, and has continued appearing on British television, or series produced in Britain ('' The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power'' as of 2022). Mike Yarwood
Michael Edward Yarwood, (born 14 June 1941) is an English impressionist, comedian and actor. He was one of Britain's top-rated entertainers, regularly appearing on television from the 1960s to the 1980s. Early life Michael Edward Yarwood was born on Saturday, 14 June 1941 in Bredbury, Cheshire. After leaving Secondary Modern School, he worked as a messenger and then salesman at a garment warehouse. He played football as a child, but did not pursue a professional career. Later he was a director of the Stockport County football club. Career London Palladium Yarwood appeared on British television shows in the 1960s and 1970s. Before his various eponymous BBC Television series, he worked for the ITV franchise holder ATV, and for Thames Television after he left the BBC. Lulu Kennedy-Cairns (born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie; 3 November 1948) is a Scottish singer, actress, and television personality. Go-Jos
The Go-Jos were a British TV dance troupe, created for the BBC1 TV music chart show ''Top of the Pops'' in late 1964, appearing regularly on the show until mid-1968. They were the first of a series of five dance troupes on the programme. They also appeared on other BBC and ITV shows, finally disbanding in 1971. Formation The troupe were formed by Jo Cook, who had been a member of the TV dance troupe the Silhouettes in the early 1960s. She then became a founder member of the Beat Girls, appearing in the weekly pop show on BBC2, ''The Beat Room'', from July 1964. She was forced to leave the Beat Girls in October 1964 due to a contractual dispute. In November 1964, Top of the Pops producers had decided a dance troupe was needed to perform when the act was not available. Neil Hodgson Shand (3 March 1934 – 14 April 2018) was a British television comedy writer. He was born in Luton to parents from Glasgow, the son of a Vauxhall employee and a dressmaker. Neil was the eldest of three boys. Raised in a "two up two down" house, he passed the 11-plus, and had a positive experience of attending a grammar school. Virtually blind in one eye, an operation at 14 on the day the National Health Service NHS was founded (5 July 1948) saved his eyesight. He began to work for a local paper, the ''Luton Gazette'', after leaving school. Briefly working for the nationals while still having the day job in Luton, he managed to gain a regular job at the ''Daily Sketch'' after finding details of the 21st birthday party of a son of the Aga Khan at the Savoy Hotel. Alan Edgar Stratford Johns (22 September 1925 – 29 January 2002), known as Stratford Johns, was a British stage, film and television actor who is best remembered for his starring role as Detective Inspector Charlie Barlow in the long-running BBC police series ''Z-Cars''. Early life Johns was born and grew up in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. After serving as a deckhand in the South African navy during World War II, he worked for a time in accountancy, but soon became involved in amateur theatre. Sydney Lotterby
Sydney Warren Lotterby OBE (30 November 1926 – 28 July 2020) was a British television producer and director who produced numerous BBC comedy series. Life and career Lotterby was born in Paddington, London, to Winifred (née Warren) and Sidney Lotterby, a shop fitter, and grew up in Edgware, Middlesex. In 1941, on leaving Stag Lane school aged 14, he joined the BBC as a storekeeper in the electrical department at Broadcasting House, then worked in the sound control room at BBC Radio until his national service in the British Army from 1946 until 1948. After national service he returned to the BBC and became a cameraman and progressed to becoming technical manager. He joined the BBC's Entertainment Department in 1958 and in 1963, became a producer/director. Lotterby married Marcia Dos Santos in 1997. He died on 28 July 2020, at the age of 93.
