An album is a collection of audio recordings (e.g., music) issued on a medium such as compact disc (CD), Phonograph record, vinyl (record), audio tape (like 8-track cartridge, 8-track or Cassette tape, cassette), or digital distribution, digital. Battlefield Band
Battlefield Band was a Scottish traditional music group. Founded in Glasgow in 1969, they have released over 30 albums and undergone many changes of lineup. As of 2010, none of the original founders remain in the band. Their last known live performance occurred in August 2017. The band is noted for their combination of bagpipes with non-traditional instruments, such as electronic keyboards, and for its mix of traditional songs and new material. Battlefield Band toured internationally, playing to audiences in Europe, Australia, Asia, the Middle East, and North America. They have collaborated with other musicians including the Scottish harp player and glass sculptor Alison Kinnaird. Temple Records (1978 UK Label)
Temple Records was a record label founded in 1978 by Robin Morton, previously a member of The Boys of the Lough. It was located in Temple, Midlothian. Although Morton is from Ulster, the label is devoted almost purely to acoustic Scottish traditional music. Morton worked as a producer for Topic Records. This label was not interested in recording the clarsach player Alison Kinnaird, as they did not think the record would sell. He formed Temple Records to release her first LP, '' The Harp Key'' (1978), which became a best selling traditional music record. Morton later married Kinnaird. One of the earliest signings was The Battlefield Band, who rapidly rose to international fame. Morton became their manager in 1980. All their albums are on the Temple label (except for their debut and third ones released on the Escalibur label). Robin Morton (musician)
Robin Morton (24 December 1939 – 1 October 2021) was an Irish folk musician, song collector, broadcaster, record producer, band manager, and founder of the Temple Records label and the Kinmor publishing company. Early life and education Morton was born in County Armagh, Northern Ireland on 24 December 1939 and was drawn to music from an early age through his father's interest in jazz, which motivated him to teach himself to play the cornet. After leaving school, he taught mentally handicapped children for which he received training for a year in Manchester, where he bought his first guitar. In 1962, he enrolled at Queens University in Belfast to study for a diploma in Social work, and began to attend folk clubs. After graduating, he obtained further qualification as a psychiatric social worker from the London School of Economics. He then returned to Belfast and began working in child psychiatry. Alan Reid (musician)
Alan Reid (born 2 May 1950, Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish folk multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. He was a founding member of Battlefield Band, which combined traditional Celtic melodies and new material. Biography 1969–2010: the Battlefield Band years Most enduring founding member Alan Reid joined Battlefield Band in 1969, at a time when they were evolving into a folk group. From 1973, Battlefield Band quickly became pre-eminent in the emerging Scottish Traditional music scene, becoming established firmly at the forefront where they remain today. John McCusker
John McCusker (born 15 May 1973) is a Scottish folk musician, record producer, and composer. McCusker was a member of the Battlefield Band in the 1990s and worked as a band member and producer for folk singer Kate Rusby. He has produced and arranged music for various artists and has released several solo albums. Biography McCusker was born in Bellshill, Scotland, on the 15th of May 1973. At age seven, his Irish mother encouraged him to learn the fiddle. He then went on to participate in local youth orchestras and cèilidh bands. At age 14, he formed a band with schoolmates called ''Parcel O'Rogues'', named after Robert Burns' poem ''Sic a Parcel o' Rogues in a Nation''. Two years later, McCusker declined an offer from the Royal Scottish Academy in Glasgow in order to tour with the Battlefield Band, with whom he spent eleven years.
