Thomas Spring Of Castlemaine
Thomas Spring of Castlemaine (died 1597) was an English Protestant soldier, politician and Constable of Castle Maine in County Kerry, Ireland. Biography Thomas Spring was born in Lavenham, Suffolk, the son of Robert Spring. He was the grandson of Thomas Spring of Lavenham, the richest merchant in England during the early 1500s. Spring was an officer in the army of Elizabeth I during the Tudor conquest of Ireland. He served with distinction, coming to the attention of Walter Raleigh who lobbied Sir Michael Hicks for a reward for Spring. As part of the Plantation of Munster he was granted over 3,000 acres of land in County Kerry in 1578. In 1584, he was appointed Constable of Castle Maine, with responsibility for maintaining English royal authority over the locality. He was accorded the right to hold several country fairs as a source of income and was in control of collecting tolls and taxes for the Crown. Sir Thomas Spring, 3rd Baronet (c. 1672 – 2 April 1704) of Pakenham Hall in Pakenham, Suffolk, was an English baronet and landowner who served as High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1696. Career Spring was the eldest son of Sir William Spring, 2nd Baronet and Sarah Cordell, daughter of Sir Robert Cordell, 1st Baronet of Melford Hall, Suffolk. He was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge and inherited his father's title and estate upon his death in 1684. Marriage and issue On 23 May 1691, he married Hon. Merolina Jermyn, a daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Jermyn, 2nd Baron Jermyn and Mary Merry, and co-heiress of Henry Jermyn, 1st Baron Dover. Tom Spring
Tom Spring (born Thomas Winter) (22 February 1795 – 20 August 1851) was an English Bare-knuckle boxing, bare-knuckle fighter. He was champion of England from 1822 until his retirement in 1824. After his retirement he became landlord of the Castle Inn at Holborn in London, where he arranged the patronage and contracts of many of the major boxing events of the period while overseeing fair play in the ring. Early years Spring was born at Witchend in Fownhope, Herefordshire on 22 February 1795. His true surname was "Winter", which he changed to Spring when he became a professional boxer. His first career was as a butcher, the trade in which he was employed when he had his first known fight in 1812, against John Hollands. He had been encouraged to box from a young age by his father, who had constructed a sand bag for him to train with. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American lawyer and jurist who has served since 1991 as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. President George H. W. Bush Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination, nominated him to succeed Thurgood Marshall.
