Die Fantastischen Vier (, "The Fantastic Four"), often shortened to Fanta 4, is a German hip hop band from Stuttgart. The members are Smudo, Michael Schmidt (Smudo), Andreas Rieke, Thomas Dürr, and Michi Beck. Thomas Clark (1801–1867) was a Scottish chemist. He became known for the discovery of the phosphate of soda, and the process of lime softening of hard water the 'Clark process'. A ''Clark degree (°Clark)'' of water hardness is defined as one grain (64.8 mg) of CaCO3 per Imperial gallon (4.55 litres) of water, equivalent to 14.254 ppm. and 10^5 parts of water Life Clark was born in Ayr, the son of a shipmaster and a needleworker. He went to school at the Ayr Academy, and then was placed in the counting-house of Charles Macintosh in Glasgow. After a few years he moved to the St. Rollox chemical works. In 1836 Clark became lecturer on chemistry at the Glasgow Mechanics' Institution. To improve his standing in the scientific world, he entered as a candidate for the M.D. degree of Glasgow in 1827, completing his curriculum in 1831; in the interval he became apothecary to the infirmary (1829). S4449 Able Seaman Thomas Welsby Clark was a sailor in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), whose body was found on a life raft in the Indian Ocean, near Christmas Island, on 6 February 1942. Before his body was identified, he was widely believed to originate from the RAN cruiser , which sank off Western Australia in November 1941 after a battle with the German auxiliary cruiser . While 318 of 399 personnel survived, all 645 members of the ''Sydney'' crew were lost. Clark was formally identified by DNA analysis in 2021, and the RAN publicly released his identity on 19 November 2021, the 80th anniversary of the battle. Background Clark was born in Brisbane on 28 January 1920. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 23 August 1940, and was trained as a submarine detector at HMAS ''Cerberus'' and on HMAS ''St Giles''. Thomas Clark (August 1741 – 25 December 1792) was an officer who served in the War of the Regulation in North Carolina and in the 1st North Carolina Regiment, North Carolina Line of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was promoted to brigadier general after the war. Early life (1741–1775) Thomas Clark was born in August 1741 in Wilmington, North Carolina to Thomas Clark, a merchant, and Barbara Murray. He also had a sister, Ann, who married William Hooper.
