This Is The Devo Box
''This Is the Devo Box'' is a seven-disc compact disc, CD box set compilation of albums by United States, American New wave music, new wave band Devo, released only in Japan in 2008. It contains all six of the band's studio albums for Warner Bros. Records, spanning the years 1978 to 1984, as well as a greatly expanded version of the 1981 ''DEV-O Live'' EP, identical to the 1999 Rhino Handmade CD release. The box features exclusive remasters by mastering engineer Isao Kikuchi and the albums are packaged in miniature LP sleeves with miniaturized versions of the original artwork and pack-ins. The box does not include bonus tracks, although this edition of the ''New Traditionalists'' album includes the track "Working in the Coalmine," originally included as a bonus single (music), 7" single in some early pressings of the LP. Devo
Devo is an American new wave band from Akron, Ohio, formed in 1973. Their classic line-up consisted of two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs ( Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers. The band had a No. 14 ''Billboard'' chart hit in 1980 with the single " Whip It", the song that gave the band mainstream popularity. Devo's music and visual presentation (including stage shows and costumes) mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor and mordantly satirical social commentary. ''New Traditionalists'' is the fourth studio album by American new wave band Devo, released on September 16, 1981 by Warner Bros. Records. The album was recorded over a period of four months between December 1980 and April 1981 at the Power Station in Manhattan, New York City. It features the minor hits " Through Being Cool" and " Beautiful World". Background Following the band's success with " Whip It" and its parent album, ''Freedom of Choice'' (1980), the band's label, Warner Bros., began exerting pressure on the band to "write another 'Whip It'." Record Store Day
Record Store Day is a semi-annual event established in 2008 to "celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store". The LP (from long playing or long play) is an Analog recording, analog sound storage medium, specifically a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of revolutions per minute, rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. ''Shout'' is the sixth studio album by American new wave band Devo, released on October 8, 1984 by Warner Bros. Records. Arriving two years after their previous studio album, ''Oh, No! It's Devo'' (1982), the album retained the synth-pop sound of their previous few records, with an extensive focus on the then-new Fairlight CMI, Series IIx digital sampling synthesizer. Despite the popularity of synth-pop in 1984, the album was a critical and commercial failure, peaking at only No. 83 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and ultimately leading to Warner Bros. dropping the band from their label. Most of the band members have stated that they were not satisfied with the completed album and the band went on hiatus for four years following its release. ''Oh, No! It's Devo'' is the fifth studio album by American new wave band Devo, released in 1982 by Warner Bros. Records. The album was recorded over a period of four months, between May and September 1982, at Cherokee Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and was produced by Roy Thomas Baker. Background ''Oh, No! It's Devo'' features an even greater reliance on programmed synthesizers and drum machines than its predecessor, '' New Traditionalists'' (1981). ''Freedom of Choice'' (stylized as F R E E D O M O F C H O I C E) is the third studio album by the American new wave band Devo, released in May 1980 on Warner Bros. Records. ''Duty Now for the Future'' is the second studio album by American new wave band Devo, released on June 1, 1979, by Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Ken Scott, the album was recorded between September 1978 and early 1979 at Chateau Recorders in Hollywood. Composition Both ''Duty Now for the Future'' and its predecessor, '' Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!'' (1978), contained material from a backlog of songs the band had written between 1974 and 1977. By December 1976, Devo were already performing "Clockout", "Timing X" and "Blockhead" live, following the expansion of the band's line-up from a quartet to a quintet, with the addition of drummer Alan Myers (replacing Jim Mothersbaugh) and multi-instrumentalist Bob Casale.
