Seimas
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas), or simply the Seimas (), is the unicameral parliament of Lithuania. The Seimas constitutes the legislative branch of government in Lithuania, enacting laws and amendments to the Constitution, passing the budget, confirming the Prime Minister and the Government and controlling their activities. Its 141 members are elected for a four-year term, with 71 elected in individual constituencies, and 70 elected in a nationwide vote based on open list proportional representation. A party must receive at least 5%, and a multi-party union at least 7%, of the national vote to qualify for the proportional representation seats. The Way of Courage ( lt, Drąsos Kelias) is a populist political party in Lithuania. It was founded in 2012 and has an anti-corruption platform. History The party was established by supporters of Drąsius Kedys, who claimed that justice officials had whitewashed a ring of pedophiles after his daughter had been sexually molested. Kedys died under unclear circumstances in 2010. Among the party's founders is Neringa Venckienė, sister of Drąsius Kedys and former judge. The party's name alludes to Kedys' first name ''Drąsius'' which means "the brave". The goals include changes in the justice system, e.g. the establishment of trial by jury. Homeland Union - Lithuanian Christian Democrats
The Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats ( lt, Tėvynės sąjunga Lietuvos krikščionys demokratai, TS–LKD), also known colloquially simply as the Conservatives, is a centre-right political party in Lithuania. It has 18,000 members and 49 of 141 seats in the Seimas. It is the main centre-right party, with an ideology influenced by liberal conservatism, Christian democracy, nationalism and economic liberalism. Its current leader is Gabrielius Landsbergis, who replaced Andrius Kubilius in 2015. It is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and the International Democrat Union (IDU). Vilija Aleknaitė-Abramikienė (born 4 May 1957 in Lyduvėnai, Raseiniai district, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian politician and member of the Seimas. Biography Aleknaitė-Abramikienė was born to a family of Soviet Lithuania civil servants in Lyduvėnai, Raseiniai district on 4 May 1957. In 1975 Aleknaitė-Abramikienė graduated from M.K. Čiurlionis art school, in 1980 - from the Lithuanian Conservatory, as a pianist and musicologist. From 1980 she worked at the conservatory as a concertmaster and instructor. Aleknaitė-Abramikienė joined the activities of Sąjūdis in 1988. In the elections in 1992, Aleknaitė-Abramikienė was elected as the member of the Sixth Seimas through the electoral list of Sąjūdis. Virgilijus Alekna
Virgilijus Alekna (; 13 February 1972) is a Lithuanian former discus thrower and politician. He won medals at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympics, including two golds. After retiring from athletics, Alekna was elected to the national parliament, the Seimas, in 2016. He has 3 children - Martynas Alekna, Mykolas Alekna and Gabrielė Aleknaite. Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen (born 6 August 1983) is a Lithuanian politician and chess player who is currently the speaker of the Seimas. Awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2010, she was European women's champion in 2011, and is a two-time Lithuanian champion. Čmilytė-Nielsen began her career in politics in 2015, when she was selected to replace Remigijus Šimašius in the Seimas for the Liberal Movement, and later was reelected in the 2016 parliamentary election. She began to gradually rise in the ranks of the Liberal Movement, becoming the Seimas opposition leader in 2019, and being elected chairperson of the Liberal Movement later that year. The Lithuanian People's Party ( lt, Lietuvos liaudies partija) is a minor political party in Lithuania which describes itself as left-of-centre.
