Theseus
Theseus (, ; ) was a divine hero in Greek mythology, famous for slaying the Minotaur. The myths surrounding Theseus, his journeys, exploits, and friends, have provided material for storytelling throughout the ages. Theseus is sometimes described as the son of Aegeus, king of Athens, and sometimes as the son of the god Poseidon. He is raised by his mother, Aethra (mother of Theseus), Aethra, and upon discovering his connection to Aegeus, travels overland to Athens, having many adventures on the way. When he reaches Athens, he finds that Aegeus is married to Medea (formerly wife of Jason), who plots against him. The most famous legend about Theseus is his slaying of the Minotaur, half man and half bull. He then goes on to unite Attica under Athenian rule: the ''synoikismos'' ('dwelling together'). The Penny Dreadfuls
The Penny Dreadfuls are a British sketch comedy troupe consisting of comedians Humphrey Ker, David Reed and Thom Tuck, often supported by Margaret Cabourn-Smith. The troupe are best known for writing and performing ''The Brothers Faversham'' and ''The Penny Dreadfuls Present...,'' comic plays on BBC Radio 4. History Early history and Fringe shows (2006–2010) Ker, Reed and Tuck first met as students at the University of Edinburgh through the student comedy troupe The Improverts in 2001. ''Morpho theseus'', the Theseus morpho, is a Neotropical butterfly. It is found in Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Honduras and Guatemala. Theseus Ring
The Theseus Ring is a gold signet ring that dates back to the 15th-century BC, in the Mycenaean period, though the subject is typical of Minoan art. The ring is gold and measures 2.7 x 1.8 cm. On the ring is a depiction of a bull-leaping scene, which includes a lion to the left and what may be a tree on the right. It comes from the area of Anafiotika in the Plaka, the ancient city center of Athens, where it was found in a pile of earth during building operations. It now belongs to the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. There is no assertion that the ring actually belonged to Theseus, whose myth includes a gold ring. The antiquity of the Theseus Ring was debated after its discovery in the Plaka district of Athens in the 1950s. For a while it was dismissed as a fake, but as of 2006, the ring has been identified as an authentic 15th century BC artifact. Anand Gandhi (born Anand Modi, 26 September 1980) is an Indian filmmaker, entrepreneur, media producer, innovator and systems researcher. He is also the founder/CEO of the Mumbai-based new media studio and systems think tank Memesys Culture Lab. His debut feature film ''Ship of Theseus'' (2013), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, won the National Film Award for Best Picture. Gandhi's second film as creative director, executive producer and screenwriter, ''Tumbbad'' opened the Critics' Week at the 75th Venice Film Festival, released to a wide critical acclaim in October 2018. The Ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus's Paradox, is a paradox and a common thought experiment about whether an object is the same object after having all of its original components replaced over time, typically one after the other. In Greek mythology, Theseus, the mythical king of the city of Athens, rescued the children of Athens from King Minos after slaying the minotaur and then escaped onto a ship going to Delos. Each year, the Athenians would commemorate this by taking the ship on a pilgrimage to Delos to honour Apollo. A question was raised by ancient philosophers: If no pieces of the original made up the current ship, was it still the Ship of Theseus? ''The Bachelor'' is the fourth studio album by English singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf. The organ parts were recorded using the organ at St. George's church in Brede, East Sussex. The album peaked at number 49 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was mixed at The Chairworks recording complex in Yorkshire. Album information ''The Bachelor'' was originally part of a double album entitled ''Battle'', named for the Battle, East Sussex, Sussex town where he recorded the new material. On 19 February 2009, Wolf announced that ''Battle'' had been split into two releases, ''The Bachelor'' and ''The Conqueror''. Claude Elwood Shannon (April 30, 1916 – February 24, 2001) was an American mathematician, electrical engineer, computer scientist, cryptographer and inventor known as the "father of information theory" and the man who laid the foundations of the Information Age. Theseus is a large autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) designed for laying fibre-optic cable on the seafloor. History In 1987, the Canadian government released a long-awaited white paper on defence; one of the key points in this paper was Canada's commitment to maintaining sovereignty over its Arctic waters, through both the acquisition of nuclear submarines and advances in passive subsea surveillance techniques. Project Spinnaker was a defence research project initiated to develop the technologies needed to deploy acoustic listening posts on the seafloor in Canada's Arctic Archipelago. These arrays needed to be deployed in deep waters on the edge of the Continental Shelf; since these waters were ice-covered year round, a novel solution was needed to lay trunk cables from on-shore data processing centres out to the arrays.
