''There's Something Going On'' is the second studio album by the rock band Babybird, released in 1998. Unlike the band's previous album, ''Ugly Beautiful'', only one of the tracks is an alternative version of an original recording made by lead singer, Stephen Jones, before the band was formed. The original version of "I Was Never Here" can be heard on ''Fatherhood''. The album peaked at No. 28 on the UK Albums Chart. Critical reception ''The Irish Times'' wrote that "Baby Bird's mix of sweet pop and sour grapes is not always palatable, but sometimes it's a welcome tonic for jaded Britpoppers." Babybird
Babybird are an English rock band formed by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Jones, who has been releasing music since 1995. While Jones' early solo work was released under the "Baby Bird" name, the altered "Babybird" was first used to distinguish the full band line-up that has changed often over the years. However, in recent years, Jones has recorded many of the Babybird albums himself, in addition to recording as a solo artist, and under various aliases including Death Of The Neighbourhood, Trucker, Black Reindeer, Deluder, Arthritis Kid and others. Stephen Jones started writing and recording songs at home and his first collection of these demos, '' I Was Born a Man'', was released in July 1995 using the name Baby Bird. Echo Records
The Echo Label was a British record label started by Chrysalis Group in 1994, and linked with Pony Canyon in Japan. The Chrysalis Group were the original owners of Chrysalis Records, which they sold to EMI. In 2005, The Echo Label recorded a loss of over £2.0 million. The decision was taken to restructure the business at the beginning of the 2006 financial year, into an "incubator" for developing writer-artists with the intention of "upstreaming" them to a major label. The signings which resulted from this included Bat for Lashes, Steven Lindsay, Rosalie Deighton, Jacob Golden and Sarabeth Tucek. They would continue to release records for their established artists Feeder and Morcheeba. Ugly Beautiful
''Ugly Beautiful'' is a 1996 album by Babybird, the band's sixth, though their first for Echo Records. Released on 21 October, the album includes the singles " Goodnight", "Candy Girl", "You're Gorgeous" and "Cornershop". "You're Gorgeous" was a surprise top-three UK and international hit for the group. The album was written entirely by band-leader Stephen Jones. Many of the songs were written and recorded by Jones alone between 1988 and 1994. Several of the songs had been released in these demo incarnations on Jones' solo lo-fi work as Baby Bird that he did prior to forming the band with John Pedder, Robert Gregory, Luke Scott and Huw Chadbourn. The majority of the album was produced by Jones with Steve Power. Darren Allison and Ian Caple each produced a song. Release and reception ''Ugly Beautiful'' received generally positive reviews. Bugged (album)
''Bugged'' is the third studio album by rock band Babybird released in 2000. It was also the last album the band released on the Echo Records label before being dropped. The band subsequently split but re-united once again in 2006 for their fourth studio album ''Between My Ears There Is Nothing But Music''. The album features the single "The F-Word" which was later used as the theme tune for Gordon Ramsay's television series of the same name. The song "Getaway" was also used in an episode of ''Trigger Happy TV''. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data.
