Charles Lane (actor, Born 1869)
Charles Willis Lane (January 25, 1869–October 17, 1945) was an American stage and film actor, active from 1914 to 1929. Like many film performers born before 1900 Lane had extensive prior Broadway stage or regional theatrical experience stretching back to his youth in the 1890s. One of his significant stage roles was the abusive husband Robert Harding in George Broadhurst's '' The Law of the Land'' which he portrayed at the 48th Street Theatre in 1914-1915. Lane was born in Madison, Illinois, and can be seen in silent films usually as a silver-haired other man or confidant. Two of his best-known roles are Dr. Lanyon in ''Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'' (1920) and Dr. Angus McPhail in '' Sadie Thompson'' (1928). Lost Film
A lost film is a feature film, feature or short film in which the original negative or copies are not known to exist in any studio archive, private collection, or public archive. Films can be wholly or partially lost for a number of reasons. Early films were not thought to have value beyond their theatrical run, so many were discarded afterward. Nitrate film used in early pictures was highly flammable and susceptible to degradation. The Library of Congress began acquiring copies of American films in 1909, but not all were kept. Due to improvements in film technology and recordkeeping, few films produced in the 1950s or beyond have been lost. Gareth Hughes (born William John Hughes; 23 August 1894 – 1 October 1965) was a Welsh stage and silent screen actor. Usually cast as a callow, sensitive hero in Hollywood silent films, Hughes got his start on stage during childhood and continued to play youthful leads on Broadway. Biography Born William John Hughes into a working-class family in Dafen, Carmarthenshire, after working with a number of UK touring companies he joined a group of Welsh players. The group took a tour to the United States, and although not successful Hughes was spotted in Chicago, and stayed in America to pursue his acting career. By the end of 1915, he had become successful on Broadway. This, in turn, led to his involvement in the motion picture business.
