The Animals, currently billed as Eric Burdon & the Animals (featuring original frontman Eric Burdon) and also as Animals & Friends (featuring original drummer John Steel), are an English rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1962. The Animals' original lineup consisted of frontman Eric Burdon, guitarist Hilton Valentine, bass guitarist Chas Chandler, keyboardist Alan Price, and drummer John Steel. Spencer Davis Group
The Spencer Davis Group were a British blues and R&B influenced rock band formed in Birmingham in 1963 by Spencer Davis (guitar), brothers Steve Winwood (vocals, keyboards, and guitar) and Muff Winwood (bass guitar), and Pete York (drums). Their best known songs include the UK No. 1 hits " Keep On Running" and " Somebody Help Me" and the UK and US Top 10 hits " Gimme Some Lovin'" and " I'm a Man". The Winwood brothers both left in 1967, with Steve going on to form the rock band Traffic, and Muff moving into music A&R and production. After releasing a few more singles and two more albums, the band split in 1969. Davis and York revived the group in 1973–1974, resulting in a further two albums. Colin Ernest "Barry" Jenkins (22 December 1944 – 27 January 2024) was an English musician, best known for being a drummer for the Animals during both of that 1960s group's incarnations. History Early history – Nashville Teens Barry Jenkins replaced Roger Groome as the drummer for the British R&B based group The Nashville Teens in 1963. In 1964 the group had its first big hit record with " Tobacco Road". Jenkins also was present on their other top ten hit "Google Eye", as well as their lesser hits "The Little Bird", "The Hard Way", and "Find My Way Back Home". John Weider (21 April 1947 – 6 November 2023) was an English rock music, rock musician who played guitar, bass guitar, bass, and violin. He is best remembered as the guitarist for the Animals from 1966 to 1968. He was also the bass player for Family (band), Family from 1969 to 1971. Biography Early career As a teenager, Weider initially joined the Steve Laine Combo. The Combo played R&B at places such as The Flamingo Club in Soho with the likes of Georgie Fame. Weider left Steve Laine when that group went to Europe to become the Liverpool Five. Later he played alongside Steve Marriott in a band called Steve Marriott and the Moments.
