The Times (TV Program)
''The Times'' is an Australian midweek current affairs program hosted by Paul Barry that was broadcast on the Seven Network. It aired from March 1994 until November 1995. Overview It began in March 1994 airing late night on Wednesdays, and included regular contributions from Neil Mercer, and Seven's senior Canberra reporter, Glenn Milne. The program later moved to Sunday nights where it would screen after the Sunday night movie, and then in August 1995 it moved to Tuesday nights. Unlike most current affairs programs, ''The Times'' made heavy use of short cuts, subtitles and fast-paced music, resulting in an energetic style aimed at younger viewers. It was axed in November 1995, but the program's staff moved on to work on the new 10:30 pm news bulletin hosted by Anne Fulwood. Paul Barry
Paul James Barry (born 24 February 1952) is an English-born, Australian-based journalist, newsreader and television presenter, who has won many awards for his investigative reporting. He previously worked for the BBC on numerous programs, before emigrating to Australia. Biography Early life Barry studied philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford. Early career Barry started his journalistic career in London as an economics correspondent for the weekly magazine ''Investors Chronicle''. In 1978, he joined the BBC as a reporter for ''The Money Programme'', ''Newsnight'', and then ''Panorama''. In 1986, he moved to Australia and started work with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Seven Network
The Seven Network (commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is a major Australian commercial free-to-air television network. It is owned by Seven West Media Limited, and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. The network's headquarters are located in Sydney. As of 2014, it is the second-largest network in the country in terms of population reach. The Seven Network shows various nonfiction shows—such as news broadcasts ('' Seven News'') and sports programing—as well as fiction shows. In 2011, the network won all 40 out of 40 weeks of the ratings season for total viewers, being the first to achieve this since the introduction of the OzTAM ratings system in 2001. Neil Mercer
Neil Mercer is Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Cambridge. Mercer grew up in Cockermouth in Cumbria, where he went to Cockermouth Grammar School before studying psychology at the University of Manchester. He has a PhD in psycholinguistics from the University of Leicester. His research explores the role of dialogue in education and the development of children's reasoning. Biography He is Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Cambridge, where he is also Director of the study Centre Oracy Cambridge and a Life Fellow of the college Hughes Hall. Glenn Milne
Glenn Milne is a Canberra journalist and political commentator. He worked for News Limited as a columnist for ''The Australian'' newspaper and as a writer for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. He is a former chief political correspondent for the Seven Network where he reported for Seven News and often conducted interviews on Sunday Sunrise. He has also been political editor of ''The Australian''. He is a former Vice President of the National Press Club in Canberra. Cut (transition)
In the post-production process of film editing and video editing, a cut is an abrupt, but usually trivial film transition from one sequence to another. It is synonymous with the term ''edit'', though "edit" can imply any number of transitions or effects. The cut, dissolve and wipe serve as the three primary transitions. The term refers to the physical action of cutting film or videotape, but also refers to a similar edit performed in software; it has also become associated with the resulting visual "break". History Due to the short length of early film stock, splicing was necessary to join together segments into long-form. Actuality directors spliced together reels prior to shooting to record for longer periods of time. Narrative directors, on the other hand, preferred shooting for shorter lengths, editing together shot footage. Anne Fulwood
Anne Fulwood (born 5 February 1959) is an Australian-born former reporter, journalist and writer with a long association as a newsreader and current affairs host, she was born in South Australia's Riverland region and began her career in the state of South Australia. Career Fulwood began her television career at ADS-7 (now ADS-10) in Adelaide in 1982 initially as a sports reporter. She became co-news anchor for Seven National News in late 1984 alongside popular presenter Kevin Crease, well-known weatherman Keith Martyn and former football player Peter Marker on sports.
