The Surfers (Dutch Group)
The Surfers were a Dutch pop group from Haarlem in 1978 to 1981. The group was a studio project produced and written by Jaap Eggermont and Catapult musicians Aart Mol, Cees Bergman, Elmer Veerhoff, Erwin van Prehn and Geertjan Hessing. The songs were sung by session singers, but a stage act was formed for television, fronted by Nico Fontijn, and also consisting of six other singers. They had a hit in 1978 with the single "Windsurfin'", and managed to chart again twice in 1979 and 1980. Background Catapult, a glam rock band formed by and consisting of Aart Mol, Cees Bergman, Erwin van Prehn and Geertjan Hessing and later joined by Elmer Veerhoff, had scored a number of hits in the 1970s; "Let Your Hair Hang Down" and "Teeny Bopper Band" were two of the band's hits. CNR Records
CNR is a Dutch audio and video label. It was founded in 1937 as CNR Records by Cornelis Nicolaas Rood, who made his fortune as a producer of lampshades and other lighting materials. Rood regarded his record label merely as a hobby, but things changed for the better in the early 1950s when CNR bought distribution and marketing rights for several foreign pop and classical record companies. He also signed up several local artists. One of CNR's first major successes was Dutch singer Gert Timmerman, who became one of the Dutch top selling male artists from the end of the 1950s. The Invasion Of The Spacepeckers
''The Invasion of the Spacepeckers'' is the debut album of the Dutch Euro disco/Italo disco duo Video Kids. It was released by Break Records on vinyl and tape in December 1984, by Polydor Records in 1985, and unofficially by First Town Records on CD in 1995. The album also contained a large "Happy Birthday" calendar, in which children could write birthday wishes to their friends. In 1985, the album was released at the Midem music festival, and went on to sell 1.1 million copies. Video Kids received the RIAA Gold Record Award and Conamus Export Award for their international success with the album. Two music videos for " Woodpeckers from Space" and "Do the Rap" were produced and released, both of which feature Peter Slaghuis, Bianca Bonelli, and Tico Tac, the band's cartoon mascot. Video Kids were a Dutch Euro disco duo consisting of Peter Slaghuis (1961–1991, later replaced with René Portegies) and Bianca Bonelli (1964–1995), best known for their single " Woodpeckers from Space". The band's members also had solo careers on their own, such as Peter being a famous DJ and remixer, and Bianca having a solo single called "Je Veux L'amour (Follow Me)". Belle Epoque (also referenced in some sources as La Belle Epoque; French for "(the) beautiful past") was the name of a female vocal trio, based in Paris, France. The group first rose to popularity during the late 1970s with a disco remake of the song "Black Is Black", originally a hit in 1966 for the Spanish group Los Bravos. Windsurfing is a wind-propelled water sport that is a combination of sailing and surfing. It is also referred to as "sailboarding" and "boardsailing", and emerged in the late 1960s from the Californian aerospace and surf culture. Windsurfing gained a popular following across Europe and North America by the late 1970s and had achieved significant global popularity by the 1980s. Windsurfing became an Olympic sport in 1984.
