''The Sufferer & the Witness'' is the fourth studio album by American punk rock band Rise Against, released on July 4, 2006. A melodic hardcore album, it comprises thirteen tracks that focus on melody, catchy hooks, and rapid-paced tempo. Social and political issues as well as the concept of self-reflection constitute the majority of the lyrical content. Dissatisfied with ''Siren Song of the Counter Culture'' (2004) producer Garth Richardson, the band members decided to record their next album with Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore, the duo that worked on their 2003 album ''Revolutions per Minute''. Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, formed in 1999. Garth "GGGarth" Richardson, (born ), is a Canadian record producer and sound engineer. He is the son of music producer Jack Richardson. He has worked with such musical acts as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Motley Crüe, Nickelback, Rage Against the Machine, L7, Mudvayne, Melvins, Biffy Clyro, Kittie, Shihad, 54-40, Hedley, and Rise Against. He co-founded the Nimbus School of Recording Arts in Vancouver with producer Bob Ezrin and established his personal recording studio, the Farm, in Gibsons, British Columbia. Zach Blair (born December 26, 1974) is an American musician, best known as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for Chicago-based punk rock band Rise Against. He has been with the band since 2008, first appearing on their fifth studio album '' Appeal to Reason'', and has appeared on every album since. Before joining Rise Against in early 2007, Blair was a member of melodic hardcore group Only Crime along with his brother, Doni Blair, who currently plays with the Toadies. The Sufferer & the Witness Tour was a concert tour by punk band Rise Against, that took from 2006 until 2007, in support of their second major label album (fourth overall), ''The Sufferer & the Witness''. The tour began with the band headlining the 2006 Vans Warped Tour in the summer, a few weeks before the release of the album. The band then embarked on a short European summer leg, with A Wilhelm Scream and Berri Txarrak supporting. The band then returned for a full-scale North American tour with co-headliners Circa Survive, Billy Talent and Thursday though Billy Talent were forced to cancel the first 5 dates and were replaced by Evergreen Terrace.
