The Stone Zoo
The Stone Zoo (''Zoologico de Piedra'' in Spanish) is a collection of more than 400 animal and people sculptures in rock in Alto de Boquerón, Yateras, Cuba. It is the only one of its kind in the world. It opened to the public on 21 December 1977. History In 1977, the self-taught sculptor Ángel Íñigo Blanco quit his coffee-picking job and started to chisel rocks in the natural park, which is located 24km from the city of Guantánamo. Yateras
Yateras is a municipality in the Guantánamo Province of Cuba. The municipal seat is located in the town of Palenque, in the northern part of the province. Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is partly located in this municipality. It is considered the highest settlement in Cuba. Geography The municipality is divided into the barrios of Casimbas, Casisey Abajo, Casisey Arriba, Guayabal, Palmar, Río Seco, San Andrés, Sigual and Yateras. The musical term alto, meaning "high" in Italian (Latin: ''altus''), historically refers to the contrapuntal part higher than the tenor and its associated vocal range. In four-part voice leading alto is the second-highest part, sung in choruses by either low women's or high men's voices. Guantánamo
Guantánamo (, , ) is a municipality and city in southeast Cuba and capital of Guantánamo Province. Guantánamo is served by the Caimanera port near the site of a U.S. naval base. The area produces sugarcane and cotton wool. These are traditional parts of the economy. History The city was founded in 1797 in the area of a farm named ''Santa Catalina''. Cuchillas Del Toa
Cuchillas del Toa () is a Biosphere Reserve in Cuba. It is located in the eastern part of the country, mostly in the Guantánamo Province and reaching to the north into the Holguín Province. Most of the reserve is established in the drainage area of the Toa River, which flows for to the Atlantic Ocean in Baracoa. Overview The reserve extends along , of which to the marine area. The National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba, UNEAC) is a social, cultural and professional organization of writers, musicians, actors, painters, sculptors, and artist of different genres. It was founded on August 22, 1961, by the Cuban poet, Nicolas Guillen. Initially their objective was uniting the intellectuals within the young Cuban Revolution to maintain a genuine Cuban culture. The group issued ''La Gaceta de Cuba'' beginning in 1962. Cuban violinist and professor Evelio Tieles was President of the Music Section from 1977 to 1984.
