The Spectacular
''The Spectacular'' is a 2021 Dutch-Irish crime television series directed and written by Willem Bosch together with Pieter Kuijpers and produced by Kuijpers's production company Pupkin. The series is set in the Dutch province of Limburg in the late 1980's when a series of attacks were carried out by the Provisional Irish Republican Army. Dramatization The character Fiona Hughes is based on Donna Maguire, who, like brother Malachy Maguire, was a member of the Provisional IRA. Hughes left husband and children in the series to fight for the IRA, but in reality she didn't have children until later, with Leonard Hardy, another IRA activist. She was arrested a number of times and eventually convicted in Germany but was released by the court due to a lengthy preliminary imprisonment. The role of Jeanine Maes is based on Cees Verhaeren, who in reality led the investigation team. Kenneth Herdigein (born June 12, 1959, in Paramaribo) is a Dutch actor of Surinamese descent, best known as a television actor in popular Dutch comedy-dramas. The Golden Calf () is the award of the Netherlands Film Festival, which is held annually in Utrecht. ''IJmuider Courant'' is a Dutch newspaper oriented towards the city of IJmuiden and surrounding region. The paper is published by Mediahuis and had a circulation of 5,500 copies in 2014. History In January 1896 bookshop owner and publisher W.K. Donna Maguire
Donna Maguire (born in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland) is a former volunteer in the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) once described as Europe's most dangerous woman. A former convent girl from Newry, Maguire joined the IRA and, according to ''The Independent'' newspaper, was trained by Dessie Grew. In early 1989 she travelled to Europe as part of an IRA active service unit based in The Hague and Hanover. On 12 July 1989 Maguire and Leonard Hardy were arrested at Rosslare, County Wexford after arriving on a ferry from Cherbourg, and mercury switches, explosives and photographs of British Army bases in Germany were seized.
