Phil Rosen
Philip E. Rosen (May 8, 1888 – October 22, 1951) was an American film director and cinematographer. He directed more than 140 films between 1915 and 1949. He was born in Malbork, Marienburg, German Empire (now, Malbork, Poland), grew up in Machias, Maine, and died in Hollywood, California, of a heart attack. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Cinematographers. Rosen was married to model and actress Joyzelle Joyner. Rosen was meant to direct ''The Mad Dog of Europe'', a film written by Herman J. Mankiewicz with Rudolph Hitler as its central character, but the film was never made. Josephine Hill
Josephine Hill (October 3, 1899 – December 17, 1989) was an American film actress, primarily during the silent era. She appeared in more than 100 films between 1917 and 1933. Before she worked in films, Hill performed in Gus Edwards's ''School Days'' vaudeville act. She was married to Western star Jack Perrin from 1920 until their divorce in 1937. She was born in San Francisco and died in Palm Springs, California. She is buried at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California as Josephine Hill Brown. Hoot Gibson
Edmund Richard "Hoot" Gibson (August 6, 1892 – August 23, 1962) was an American rodeo champion, film actor, film director, and producer. While acting and stunt work began as a sideline to Gibson's focus on rodeo, he successfully transitioned from silent films to become a leading performer in Hollywood's growing cowboy film industry. During the period between World War I and World War II, he was second only to cowboy film legend Tom Mix as a box office draw. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers, Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Martha Mattox (born Eleanor Perry Mellen; June 19, 1879 – May 2, 1933) was an American silent film actress most notable for her portrayal of Mammy Pleasant in the 1927 film '' The Cat and the Canary''. She also played a role in ''Torrent'' (1926). She died from a heart ailment at age 53. Early years Born Eleanor Perry Mellen in Natchez, Mississippi, Mattox was the daughter of Thomas Lewis Mellen and Mary Eleanor Mellen. She attended East Mississippi College, where she studied dramatic art. (Another source gives the school's name as East Mississippi Female College, with graduation in 1892.) A 1923 article in the ''Calgary Herald'' newspaper described her as "a full-blooded Creole", of Spanish descent on her father's side and French on her mother's.
