''The Shadow of the Bridge'' (Spanish: ''A la sombra del puente'') is a 1948 Mexican drama film directed by Roberto Gavaldón and starring Esther Fernández, David Silva and Rodolfo Landa. Hershfield & Maciel p.174 It is based on the 1935 play '' Winterset'' by Maxwell Anderson. The film's sets were designed by the art director Gunther Gerszo. Roberto Gavaldón
Roberto Gavaldón (June 7, 1909 in Jiménez, Chihuahua – September 4, 1986 in Mexico City) was a Mexican film director. Eight of Gavaldón's films were featured on the list 100 Best Movies of the Cinema of Mexico. His 1958 film ''Ash Wednesday'' was entered into the 8th Berlin International Film Festival and his 1959 film '' Beyond All Limits'' was entered into the following years festival. His 1960 film '' Macario'' was entered into the 1960 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Arturo Soto Rangel (March 12, 1882 – May 25, 1965) was a Mexican film, television, and stage actor. Soto was best known for appearing in over 250 Mexican films. He appeared in one American movie, '' The Treasure of the Sierra Madre'', which won three Academy Awards and starred Humphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt, Bruce Bennett, and many other successful actors. Soto last appeared on television in 1963, where he starred in ''Voy de gallo''. Early life Soto was the only son of Don José Nemesio de Jesús Soto Ornelas born on October 30, 1852, in Ciudad Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato, México, and of a lady whose last name was Rangel. Andrés Soler
Andrés Díaz Pavia (18 November 1898 – 26 July 1969), better known by the stage name Andrés Soler, was a Mexican actor. He was considered one of the greatest figures of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Soler appeared in about two hundred films and received four Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actor nominations in his long career. Early life Andrés Soler was born in Saltillo, Coahuila as Andrés Díaz Pavía on 18 November 1898 to Domingo Díaz García and Irene Pavía Soler. He was the younger brother of Fernando Soler and the elder brother of Domingo Soler, Julián Soler, and Mercedes Soler. His family is known as the Soler Dynasty. Death On 26 July 1969, Andrés Soler unexpectedly died at his residence in Mexico City at the age of 70. His cause of death was cerebral embolism. Manuel Noriega Ruiz
Manuel "Manolo" Noriega, (June 24, 1880 – August 12, 1961) was a Spanish-born Mexican stage and film actor, screenwriter, and film director. Born Manuel Noriega Ruiz in Colombres, Spain, he worked in live theatre for many years, performing in his native Spain as well as in Mexico, Cuba and the United States. A pioneer in silent film, he made his first screen appearance in 1907. It is believed some of his early silent films have been lost, but his main body of work began in talkies in the early 1930s, performing in close to two hundred sound films. Noriega earned an Ariel Award nomination for "Best Actor in a minor role" for his performance in the 1946 film ''Pepita Jiménez''. Married to Hortensia Castañeda Avila, their daughter Carmen became a singer who married Tito Guízar.
