The Saint In Palm Springs
''The Saint in Palm Springs'' is a 1941 American mystery crime film directed by Jack Hively and starring George Sanders, Wendy Barrie and Jonathan Hale. It was produced and released by Hollywood studio RKO Pictures. The film continued the screen adventures of the Robin Hood-inspired anti-hero, Simon Templar, alias "The Saint", created by Leslie Charteris. This sequel was based upon a story by Charteris; however, many changes to his concept were made. Charteris later novelised his version of the film story as the novella "Palm Springs", contained within the 1942 collection ''The Saint Goes West''. This was the sixth of eight in RKO's film series about The Saint. The central cast was identical to the previous entry, '' The Saint Takes Over''. Jack Hively
Jack Hively (September 5, 1910 – December 19, 1995) was an American film editor and film and television director whose career lasted from the 1930s through the 1980s. His father and his brother were also film editors. He began as a film editor, before moving on to direct features. His career was interrupted by his enlistment in the U.S. Army following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941. After the war he returned to directing films, before moving on to directing on television. Life and career Hively was part of a theatrical family, his father, George Hively, was an Academy Award-nominated editor (for the 1935 film, ''The Informer (1935 film), The Informer''), and his brother, George Hively Jr., was a film and television editor. ''The Saint'' (film series) refers to eight B movies made by RKO Radio Pictures between 1938 and 1941, based on some of the books in British author Leslie Charteris' long-running series about the fictional character Simon Templar, better known as ''The Saint''. A few years after creating the character in 1928, Charteris was successful in getting RKO Pictures, RKO Radio Pictures interested in a film based on one of his books. The first, ''The Saint in New York (film), The Saint in New York'', came in 1938 and was based on the 1935 The Saint in New York, novel of the same name. Charles Quigley
Charles Quigley (February 12, 1906 – August 5, 1964) was an American actor. Early years Quigley was the son of Charles P. Quigley, who was a sales manager for a hardware business. He was a 1924 graduate of New Britain High School, and he attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Career On stage, Quigley acted for a year with a stock theater company in Portland, Maine, after which he worked with a touring company of ''Expressing Willie''. He portrayed Christian for a year in a production of ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' and then was Ethel Barrymore's leading man for two years. In Hollywood, Quigley starred in many serials and movies. Frank O'Connor (director)
Frank O'Connor (died November 22, 1959) was an American character actor and director involved in approximately 300 productions. He was a director of several films; he also penned multiple screenplays. Career In 1920, Frank O'Connor arrived in Hollywood, where he joined the Lasky Players. Henry Miller mentored him. Later, O'Connor was a freelance writer and character actor. After a career as a film director, he attempted to produce his own and, in the words of the ''San Francisco Examiner'', "went broke"; he subsequently worked as an extra. Eddie Dunn (actor)
Edward Frank Dunn (March 31, 1896 – May 5, 1951) was an American actor best known for his roles in comedy films, supporting many comedians such as Charley Chase (with whom he co-directed several short films), Charlie Chaplin, W. C. Fields and Laurel and Hardy. As a high school student in Waco, Texas, Dunn began performing with some fellow students on a local radio station. He broke into films with the Vitagraph studio in 1915, working with the studio's star comedians Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew and Larry Semon. By 1927 he was working with stop-motion animator Charley Bowers at Educational Pictures, as a supporting player in Bowers's live-action comedies. Ferris Taylor
Robert Ferris Taylor (March 25, 1888 – March 7, 1961) was an American film actor and vaudeville performer. Biography Taylor owned a vaudeville company, the Taylor Players. Besides his acting, Taylor sometimes sang in vaudeville programs. A 1922 newspaper article noted, "he possesses a deep baritone-basso voice". The group included his brother, Glen H. Taylor, who later became a U.S. senator from Idaho. In 1930, Taylor went to Hollywood, gaining a few appearances in films in bit parts and as an extra. Linda Hayes (born Rachelle Germano, October 11, 1918 – December 19, 1995) was an American actress. Hayes was raised on a farm near Sac City, Iowa.
