''The Rise of Jordan Peterson'' is a 2019 Canadian documentary film about clinical psychologist and professor Jordan Peterson. It was directed by Patricia Marcoccia and produced by Holding Space Films. It is an extended theatrical version of Marcoccia's television documentary ''Shut Him Down: The Rise of Jordan Peterson'' which was broadcast in 2018 as an episode of ''CBC Docs POV''. Background In 2015, Canadian filmmakers and husband and wife Maziar Ghaderi and Patricia Marcoccia started filming a documentary about Canadian psychology professor Jordan Peterson, who was little-known at the time. Jordan Bernt Peterson (born 12 June 1962) is a Canadian media personality, clinical psychologist, author, and professor emeritus at the University of Toronto. He began to receive widespread attention as a public intellectual in the late 2010s for his views on cultural and political issues, often described as conservative. Peterson has described himself as a classic British liberal and a traditionalist. Born and raised in Alberta, Peterson obtained bachelor's degrees in political science and psychology from the University of Alberta and a PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University.
