The Punisher (2004 Film)
''The Punisher'' is a 2004 American vigilante action film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, in his directorial debut, who also co-wrote the film with Michael France. It stars Thomas Jane as the antihero Frank Castle and John Travolta as Howard Saint, a crime boss who orders the deaths of Castle's entire family. Jonathan Blair Hensleigh (born February 13, 1959) is an American screenwriter and film director, working primarily in the action-adventure genre, best known for writing films such as ''Jumanji'', '' Die Hard with a Vengeance'', and ''Armageddon'', as well as making his own directorial debut with the 2004 comic book action film '' The Punisher''. Early life Hensleigh graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1981 with a degree in history. He attended the University of Virginia School of Law, earned his J.D. from Tulane University Law School, and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1985. Before transition into writing, he worked as an attorney for seven years. At the age of 31, Hensleigh began writing scripts and screenplays. Andy Lanning is an English comic book writer and inker, known for his work for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, and for his collaboration with Dan Abnett. Career Lanning works primarily at Marvel Comics and DC Comics as an inker. He has also pencilled books, such as his creation '' The Sleeze Brothers''. Lanning's writing has included his and Abnett's 2000 relaunch of DC's title ''Legion of Super-Heroes''. The two co-created the Resurrection Man character with artist Jackson Guice in 1997. Daniel P. Abnett ( ; born 12 October 1965) is an English comic book writer and novelist. He has been a frequent collaborator with fellow writer Andy Lanning, and has worked on books for both Marvel Comics, and their UK imprint, Marvel UK, since the 1990s, and also ''2000 AD (comics), 2000 AD''. He has also contributed to DC Comics titles, and his ''Warhammer Fantasy (setting), Warhammer Fantasy'' and ''Warhammer 40,000'' novels and graphic novels for Games Workshop's Black Library now run to several dozen titles and have sold over two million copies.
