''The Psychopathology of Everyday Life'' is the eighth album by avant-garde band King Missile. It was released on January 21, 2003 by Instinct Records. The album is named after a 1901 book by Sigmund Freud. The album cover features a mock Parental Advisory label that reads, "Warning: Contains lots of curses: Do not buy!" Reception Johnny Loftus of AllMusic awarded ''The Psychopathology of Everyday Life'' four out of five stars and said "highlights include "JLH," in which Hall commends Jennifer Love Hewitt for not speaking out against war, politics, or 9/11" and ""Eating People" sets up the classic King Missile paradox, in which the listener is at once repulsed with Hall's logic, while being impressed that he's so convincing." King Missile
King Missile is an American avant-garde art rock band best known for its 1992 humorous single " Detachable Penis". Vocalist John S. Hall has fronted several disparate incarnations of the group since founding it in 1986. History King Missile (Dog Fly Religion) In 1985, writer John S. Hall began presenting his work at open mic poetry readings. After three shows, Hall became a "featured" poet at the Backfence, a performance venue in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. Pencilina
Bradford Reed is an American multi-instrumentalist, experimental luthier, and member of the avant-garde band King Missile III. In the 1980s he invented the pencilina, a custom made string instrument. Discography Pencilina The pencilina is a custom-made string instrument that Reed invented in the 1980s. The instrument is a double neck 3rd bridge guitar. The pencilina is similar in construction to two long connected thin zithers. Its two "necks" each have a bridge, tuning pegs, and a set of strings; six strings on one neck and four on the other. Both are open tuned. The treble tuning is adjustable via a multiple tuning bridge. Wedged over and under the strings is a wooden drum stick for the treble/alto/tenor strings and a metal rod for the bass strings, which divide each string into two segments with different pitches. A sampler is an electronic musical instrument that records and plays back samples (portions of sound recordings). Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sound effects or longer portions of music. The mid-20th century saw the introduction of keyboard instruments that played sounds recorded on tape, such as the Mellotron. Jesus Was Way Cool
"Jesus Was Way Cool" is a song by avant-garde band King Missile. It appears on the band's 1990 album ''Mystical Shit.'' Content In "Jesus Was Way Cool," frontman John S. Hall, over a mellow and drawn out piano figure, delivers an enthusiastic deadpan monologue in which he declares Jesus "way cool" for such skills as healing, walking on water, and turning water into wine. Hall states that Jesus did "anything he wanted to do," and, anachronistically, could have surpassed the achievements of Jimi Hendrix, Wayne Gretzky, and Mikhail Baryshnikov in their respective fields. Hall then postulates that the crucifixion of Jesus was in fact motivated by jealousy of his coolness, and that the subsequent resurrection of Jesus is further evidence of said coolness. To further deadpan effect, Hall concludes, "No wonder there are so many Christians." Christopher Xefos (born January 5, 1964) is an American multi-instrumentalist musician/engineer/ producer and former member of band King Missile. He plays various instruments such as accordion, bass, piano, and synthesizer, among others. He began recording/producing various groups in New York City during the 1980s, including indie-rock legends Phantom Tollbooth. In 1989, he joined the New York City avant-garde spoken word/art rock group King Missile. Five years, four albums and a number of alternative rock "hits" (including " Jesus Was Way Cool" and " Detachable Penis") later, King Missile disbanded (this version).
