Fatboy Slim
Norman Quentin Cook (born Quentin Leo Cook, 31 July 1963), also known as Fatboy Slim, is an English musician and DJ who helped popularise the big beat genre in the 1990s. His music makes extensive use of Sampling (music), samples from eclectic genres, combined with pop structures, processed rhythms and "sloganistic" vocals. In the 1980s, Cook was the bassist for the indie rock band the Housemartins, who achieved a UK number-one single with their cover of "Caravan of Love". After the Housemartins split, Cook moved to Brighton to pursue dance music. He formed the electronic group Beats International, who produced the number-one single "Dub Be Good to Me" in 1990, and played in the band Freak Power. He also released House music, house records under names including Pizzaman (duo), Pizzaman and the Mighty Dub Katz. "Star 69" (also known as "Star 69 (What the F**k)") is a song by English electronic music producer Fatboy Slim, released on 23 April 2001 as the second single from his third studio album ''Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars'' (2000). It was released as a double A-side single with " Weapon of Choice", as well as its own standalone release. The song peaked at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and reached the top 40 in Australia, Finland, and Ireland. It was later sampled by Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj on their 2017 collaboration " Swish Swish". Despite being promoted as a single, "Star 69" was omitted from edited versions of ''Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars'' due to its frequent looping of an expletive. Midfield General
Damian Harris, also known by his stage name Midfield General, is the original founder of the Skint Records label. A prime architect of the sound of big beat, Harris grew up listening first to punk rock, later hip hop, and acid house. He then moved to Brighton to study art, eventually taking work as a DJ while promoting clubs around the city. In 1994, his music knowledge landed him a job at Loaded Records, where former Housemartins member Norman Cook – a friend of Harris' since his days working at the Rounder store in Brighton – recorded as Pizzaman. He is a fan of Arsenal F.C. and uses his season ticket at the Emirates Stadium. Pete Heller is an English electronic and house music producer from Brighton, England. Biography He is recognised in the dance community for his solo work, and his remixes with frequent collaborator Terry Farley. As a duo, they have released popular tunes under the names Heller & Farley Project (or Farley & Heller), Fire Island plus The Look and Feel. In 1996, they released "Ultra Flava", a No. 3 hit on the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. The track also peaked at No. 22 on the UK Singles Chart. X-Press 2 are an English electronic dance music duo. The members are DJ Diesel (Darren House) and DJ Rocky (Darren Rock). Ashley Beedle left to pursue solo projects in 2009. They were DJ Award winners in 2002 and Ivor Novello winners in 2003. History Explaining the band's name, Darren Rock (aka 'DJ Rocky') explained that acid house legend Terry Farley of Fire Island came up with it.
