The Passing Of Wolf MacLean
''The Passing of Wolf MacLean'' is a 1924 silent Western film directed by Paul Hurst and produced by and starring Jack Mower. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, Bert Granger (Fenton) gambles, drinks and runs a saloon in which his two children, Benny (Fox) and Alice (Rayford), are the entertainers. The Stranger (Mower) comes along, stops a drinking bout, gets into a fight and is victorious. After that he and Alice become interested in one another. Bert loses his property to card sharps. Young Benny sees a big reward for the arrest of “Wolf MacLean” and, as the Stranger tallies with the description, he arrests him. The old man reforms and makes Benny a partner in a new grocery business. Benny aids the Stranger to escape. The Stranger is just about to be hanged by the card sharks when Parson Williams (Hallett) makes known that he is the criminal and that the sharks are his confederates. Paul Hurst (actor)
Paul Causey Hurst (October 15, 1888 – February 27, 1953) was an American actor and director. Career Born in Traver, California, Hurst was half-Cherokee and half- Seneca. He was raised on a ranch. He appeared in hundreds of films during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. However, he got his start painting scenery as part of the backstage crew during the silent movie era. By 1911, he was active in films as an actor, writer and director. He freelanced and worked for many of the movie studios, building a solid reputation for his work both on and off screen. Hurst is best remembered for two roles: as the Yankee deserter who trespasses at Tara and is shot by Scarlett in ''Gone with the Wind'' (1939); and his memorable characterization of the drunken and sadistic vigilante Smith in '' The Ox Bow Incident'' (1943). A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Mark Fenton
Mark Fenton (November 11, 1866 – July 29, 1925) was an American stage performer and motion-picture character actor who appeared in at least 80 films between 1914 and 1925. Fenton had considerable experience performing on stage prior to acting in silent films. His early stage work included parts in Charles Frohman's productions. His Broadway credits included ''Twelfth Night'' (1900), ''Mary Stuart'' (1900), ''Marie Antoinette'' (1900), ''The Ladies' Battle'' (1900), ''Macbeth'' (1900), ''Much Ado About Nothing'' (1900), and ''Francesca da Rimini'' (1901). Jack Mower
Jack Mower (September 5, 1890 – January 6, 1965) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 520 films between 1914 and 1965. He was born in Honolulu and died in Hollywood. After studying at Punahou College, in Honolulu, Mower moved to the mainland, and performed in vaudeville and in musical comedies on stage. His work on screen included serials and silent films. Mower was a leading man in silent films, but played bit parts after sound films came into vogue.
