''The Legend Is Born: Ip Man'' () is a 2010 Hong Kong biographical martial arts film based on the early life of the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man, directed by Herman Yau and starring Dennis To in the title role. The film was followed by a sequel in 2013, '' Ip Man: The Final Fight''. Though not made in collaboration with Wilson Yip's ''Ip Man'' or ''Ip Man 2'', ''The Legend is Born'' features several actors who appeared in Yip's films, including Sammo Hung, Louis Fan, and Chen Zhihui. Chen Zhihui
Chen Zhihui is a Chinese actor best known for playing supporting roles in various films and television series since the 1980s. Some of his more notable roles in film include: Master Chin in '' Jet Li's Fearless'' (2006); Zhang Fei in '' Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon'' (2008); Master Liu in ''Ip Man'' (2008). Blood Brother
Blood brother can refer to two or more people not related by birth who have sworn loyalty to each other. It was originally reserved for samurai in their code of honor, but was also practiced by other Japanese people during the Shōwa era (particularly officers near the end of World War II) to restore honor for themselves or for their families. Cheung Wing-sing
Cheung Wing-sing (; 1897 – 1960) was the wife of Wing Chun master Ip Man. Biography Little is known about Cheung's birth and childhood life except that she was a relative of the Qing Dynasty official Zhang Yinhuan () (1837–1900), who was involved in the Hundred Days' Reform movement in 1898, and that she was born to educated parents in Foshan. In 1916 she was married to Yip Man in Foshan and they had four children: sons Yip Chun () and Yip Ching () and daughters Yip Nga-sum () and Yip Nga-wun (). Leung Jan
Leung Jan (born Leung Tak-wing; 1826–1901) was a Chinese martial artist and Wing Chun practitioner from Heshan, Guangdong. He was known in Foshan as ''Mr. Jan of Foshan'' and ''King of Wing Chun Kuen''. Leung Jan is one of the earliest well-documented practitioners of Wing Chun, which was mainly passed down verbally from teacher to student prior to Leung Jan. Background Leung Jan was born Leung Tak-wing in 1826 in Heshan, Guangdong. He had an elder brother, Leung Tak-nam, who would later become a successful businessman. Leung Bik
Leung Bik (born Leung Bik-wo with the courtesy name Tai-wah; 1843 – 1911), also known as Mr. Bik (), was a Wing Chun martial artist. He was one of Ip Man's teachers. History He was born in Foshan in 1843 as the second of the nine sons of Leung Jan by his second wife with the surname of Cheng ().
