The Kettles On Old MacDonald's Farm
''The Kettles on Old MacDonald's Farm'' is a 1957 American comedy film directed by Virgil Vogel. It is the tenth and last installment of Universal-International's ''Ma and Pa Kettle'' series starring Marjorie Main and introducing Parker Fennelly as Pa, replacing Percy Kilbride. It was also Marjorie Main's last movie of any kind. Plot Ma and Pa Kettle help lumberjack Brad Johnson turn his wealthy girlfriend Sally Flemming into a good farm wife. Worried that her father may oppose her marriage to a lumberjack, Sally hides out on the Kettle farm until Brad can convince her father that he'd be a suitable breadwinner. Ma Kettle decides Sally needs some heavy-duty lessons on how to be a good farm wife. Only Sally's sense of humor helps her survive the lessons, which include getting up at 4:30AM; being surrounded by livestock; and mastering the use of non-modern appliances. Virgil Vogel
Virgil William Vogel (November 29, 1919 – January 1, 1996) was an American television and film director. His career spanned nearly sixty years, directing episodes of ''Wagon Train'', ''Bonanza'', ''The Big Valley'', and '' Mission: Impossible'', among other series. Earlier in his career he was also a film editor. He also directed the pilot episode of '' Street Hawk''. He and the star of that show Rex Smith, both being pilots, enjoyed many adventures, with Virgil as pilot in command and Rex as co-pilot. Virgil was recipient of the Air Medal for 50 missions commanding the B-29 over the skies of Japan. Rex relates, “We worked till late on Friday’s but always were up a six, to play tennis, then fly our military style ‘missions’, followed by dinner and drinks. Claude Akins
Claude Aubrey Akins (May 25, 1926 – January 27, 1994) was an American character actor. He played Sonny Pruit in '' Movin' On'', a 1974–1976 American drama series about a trucking team; Sheriff Lobo on '' The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo'', a 1979–1981 television series; and in a variety of other roles on television as well as in feature films. Early years Akins was born in Nelson, Georgia, and grew up in Bedford, Indiana, the son of Maude and Ernest Akins. Although film reference books gave his age at death as 75, Akins' son said his father was born in 1926, which is supported by public records. He was part Cherokee. Akins served in the Pacific with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II.
