The Katnips Of 1940
''The Katnips of 1940'' is a 1934 short animated film distributed by Columbia Pictures, and stars Krazy Kat. Plot Krazy is a dance instructor who is teaching moves to a quartet of cat dancing girls wearing leotards and high-heeled pumps. When the girls are having trouble following his instructions, Krazy puts ropes on their legs to show them how to move. Momentarily, Kitty Kat—Krazy's usual girlfriend from the sound-era shorts, here drawn with Swedish-style blonde corkscrew curls—comes out of a dance school only a few yards away before entering Krazy's studio. Kitty comes to Krazy, and shows him her dance skills. Krazy, however, isn't interested and therefore turns her down as he is expecting a famous soprano, Fifi La Frog, to arrive. Kitty then shows her singing skills by letting out a high tone that jolts Krazy off his feet, but Krazy still turns her down. Manny Gould
Emanuel Gould (May 30, 1904 – July 19, 1975) was an American animated cartoonist from the 1920s to the 1970s, best known for his contributions as a director, writer and animator for Screen Gems, and solely an animator for Warner Bros. Cartoons and DePatie–Freleng Enterprises. Career Manny Gould began his career as a teenager working for several New York-based animation studios. He would later partner with Ben Harrison to form the short lived Harrison-Gould studios. Both later moved to Winkler Pictures to work on the ''Krazy Kat'' cartoon series as animators, writers and directors. After Charles Mintz took over Winkler Pictures, the studio was moved to Los Angeles in 1931 to develop The Charles Mintz Studio (later renamed Screen Gems) after establishing a partnership with Columbia Pictures. Uncle Sam (which has the same initials as ''United States'') is a common national personification of the federal government of the United States or the country in general. Since the early 19th century, Uncle Sam has been a popular symbol of the U.S. government in American culture and a manifestation of patriotic emotion. Uncle Sam has also developed notoriety for his appearance in military propaganda, popularized by a famous 1917 World War I recruiting poster by J.M. Flagg. The Big Cartoon DataBase (or BCDB for short) is an online database of information about animated cartoons, animated feature films, animated television shows, and cartoon shorts. The BCDB project began in 1997 as a list of Disney animated features on creator Dave Koch's local computer. In response to increasing interest in the material, the database went online in 1998 as a searchable resource dedicated to compiling information about cartoons, including production details such as voice actors, producers, and directors, as well as plot summaries and user reviews of cartoons. In 2003, BCDB became a 501(c) non-profit corporation. On June 24, 2009, it was announced by creator Dave Koch on his BCDB forums that the site had 100,000 titles. Preston Blair
Preston Erwin Blair (October 24, 1908 – April 19, 1995) was an American character animator, best remembered for his work at Walt Disney Productions and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio. A native of Redlands, California, Blair began his animation career in the early 1930s at the Romer Gray Studio due to the studio not keeping up with his salary, he moved to Walter Lantz Productions. He later moved over to Charles Mintz's Screen Gems studio, and in the late 1930s moved over to the Disney studio. At Disney, Blair animated cartoon short subjects, Mickey Mouse scenes in "''The Sorcerer's Apprentice''" section of ''Fantasia'' (1940), and the hippo-alligator dance in ''Fantasia's'' "''Dance of the Hours''" sequence.
