''The Grudge'', titled on its home media release as ''The Grudge: The Untold Chapter'', is a 2019 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Nicolas Pesce. A soft reboot of the American ''The Grudge'' film series, based on the 2002 Japanese horror film '' Ju-On: The Grudge'', the film takes place before and during the events of the 2004 film and its two sequels ''The Grudge 2'' and ''The Grudge 3''. The film stars Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver, following a police officer who investigates several murders that are seemingly connected to a single house. A fourth American ''The Grudge'' film was announced in 2011. In March 2014, it was announced a soft reboot was in the works, with Jeff Buhler set to write the script. Nicolas Pesce ( ) (born January 18, 1990) is an American filmmaker. He is best known for directing the horror films ''The Eyes of My Mother'' (2016), '' Piercing'' (2018) and ''The Grudge'' (2019). Life and career Nicolas Pesce was born in New York City to a Brazilian family. His theatrical debut, ''The Eyes of My Mother'', premiered in the NEXT section at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2016. Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a genetic disorder, disease linked to the X chromosome. It is a result of fatty acid buildup caused by failure of peroxisome#Metabolic functions, peroxisomal fatty acid beta oxidation which results in the accumulation of very long chain fatty acids in tissues throughout the body. Kayako Saeki
is a fictional character and the main antagonist of the ''Ju-On'' and ''The Grudge'' horror franchises. Kayako's fictional history alternates slightly between continuities, but all depict her as the very attractive yet unfortunately vengeful ghost of a woman killed by her husband, Takeo, along with their son Toshio, in a murder–suicide that happened after he came to believe she was having an affair.
