The Governor General's Body Guard
The Governor General's Body Guard was a royal guard regiment of the Canadian Militia that formed part of the country's Household Division, household troops. The Body Guard was the senior regiment of the Non-Permanent Active Militia and the equivalent of the British Army's Life Guards (United Kingdom), Life Guards and Royal Horse Guards. In 1936 the regiment amalgamated with the Mississauga Horse to become the Governor General's Horse Guards. Canadian Militia
The Canadian Militia is a historical title for military units raised for the defence of Canada. The term has been used to describe sedentary militia units raised from local communities in Canada; as well as the regular army for the Province of Canada and post-Canadian Confederation, confederated Canada, referred to as the active militias. The earliest militia units in Canada dates back to 16th century in New France. In the French colony, a compulsory militia of settlers from every parish was raised in order to support the military of New France in the defence and expansion of the colony. Sedentary militia units were also raised by the British, to defend its colonies and to support British military operations on the continent. Humboldt, Saskatchewan
Humboldt is a city in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located 113 km east of Saskatoon at the junction of Saskatchewan Highway 5, Highway 5 and Saskatchewan Highway 20, Highway 20. Frederick Dobson Middleton
Sir Frederick Dobson Middleton (4 November 1825 – 25 January 1898) was a British general noted for his service throughout the Empire and particularly in the North-West Rebellion in Canada. Imperial military career Middleton was born in London, the third son of Major General Charles Middleton and Fanny Wheatley. Educated at Maidstone Grammar School and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Middleton was commissioned into the 58th Regiment of Foot in 1842. He served in the New Zealand Wars, and in 1845 he was mentioned in dispatches for his part in the capture of the stronghold of Māori chief Te Ruki Kawiti. In 1848 he transferred to the 96th Regiment of Foot in India and took part in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny in which campaign he was recommended for, but not awarded, the Victoria Cross. 2nd Dragoons (Canada)
The 2nd Dragoons was a cavalry regiment of the Non-Permanent Active Militia of the Canadian Militia (now the Canadian Army). In 1936, the regiment was Amalgamated with the 10th Brant Dragoons to form the 2nd/10th Dragoons – today now part of the 57th Field Artillery Regiment (2nd/10th Dragoons), RCA (currently on the Supplementary Order of Battle). George Taylor Denison I
Captain George Taylor Denison (29 December 1783 – 18 December 1853) was a British-born landowner, military officer and community leader in Upper Canada (later Canada West). Life and career He was born in England, the son of Captain John Denison and Sophia Taylor. He traveled to Upper Canada and the town of York, Upper Canada, in 1796 with his parents and two brothers. He inherited the bulk of his family's property and, after the War of 1812, purchased and acquired land through marriage around what is now the Kensington Market neighborhood of Toronto. At the end of his life, he held in York and was one of the wealthiest landowners in Canada West.
