Larry Semon
Lawrence Semon (February 9, 1889 – October 8, 1928) was an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter during the silent film era. In his day, Semon was considered a major movie comedian, but he is now remembered mainly for working with both Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy before they started working together. He directed and appeared in the 1925 silent film ''The Wizard of Oz (1925 film), The Wizard of Oz'', which had a slight influence on the better-known 1939 Sound film, talkie ''The Wizard of Oz'' released by MGM. The film was included in the 2005 three-disc DVD version of the 1939 film, along with other silent ''Oz'' movies. Charles Sellon
Charles A. Sellon (August 24, 1870 – June 26, 1937) was an American stage and film actor. Sellon appeared in more than 100 films and stage acts between 1901 and 1935. He played the blind Mr. Muckle in W. C. Fields' comedy '' It's a Gift'' (1934) and the wheelchair-using uncle in '' Bright Eyes'' (1934) with Shirley Temple. His other films included ''The Mighty'', ''The Painted Desert'', and ''Tracked in the Snow Country''. On Broadway, Sellon appeared in ''The Challenge'' (1919), ''Roads of Destiny'' (1918), ''The Pawn'' (1917), and ''The Cat and the Fiddle'' (1907). Sellon was married to Florence E. Willis from 1896 until his death. They had one child together: a son, Robert Charles Sellon. One major contributing factor is the common use of nitrate film until the early 1950s. This type of film is highly flammable, and there have been several devastating fires, such as the 1914 Lubin vault fire, the Universal Pictures fire in 1924, the Warner Bros. First National fire in 1933, the British and Dominions Imperial Studios fire in 1936, and the 1937 Fox vault fire, the 1965 MGM vault fire.
