''The Girl from Woolworth's'' is a 1929 American sound ( All-Talking) pre-Code musical romance film directed by William Beaudine and starring Alice White, Gladden James and Bert Moorhouse. William Beaudine
William Washington Beaudine (January 15, 1892 – March 18, 1970) was an American film director. He was one of Hollywood's most prolific directors, turning out a remarkable 179 feature-length films in a wide variety of genres. He is best known today for his silent films ''Little Annie Rooney (1925 film), Little Annie Rooney'' and ''Sparrows (1926 film), Sparrows'', both with Mary Pickford; the W. C. Fields comedy ''The Old Fashioned Way (1934 film), The Old Fashioned Way''; several Bela Lugosi and Charlie Chan thrillers; ''Mom and Dad (1945 film), Mom and Dad'', a sex-education exploitation film; and the popular The Bowery Boys, Bowery Boys comedies. William Orlamond
William Anderson Orlamond (1 August 1867 – 23 April 1957) was a Danish-American film actor. Orlamond appeared in more than 80 films between 1912 and 1938. Orlamond delivered his finest performance in director Victor Sjöström’s masterpiece '' The Wind'' (1928) in the supporting role of “Sourdough.” Early life Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, little is known about Orlamond’s antecedents except that he was born into a family of itinerant actors. He and his brother, Fritz, were included in the traveling acts virtually from infancy. When in his early 20s, he was supporting himself in Germany as a “dialect comedian.” Film career The date of Orlamond's emigration to the United States is unclear, but by 1912 he was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania working in one-reelers for Siegmund Lubin and appearing in Pathé and Edison Studios production shorts. During this time a variety of recording systems were used, including sound on film formats such as Movietone sound system, Movietone and RCA Photophone, as well as sound on disc formats like Vitaphone. Lost Film
A lost film is a feature film, feature or short film in which the original negative or copies are not known to exist in any studio archive, private collection, or public archive. Films can be wholly or partially lost for a number of reasons. Early films were not thought to have value beyond their theatrical run, so many were discarded afterward. Nitrate film used in early pictures was highly flammable and susceptible to degradation. The Library of Congress began acquiring copies of American films in 1909, but not all were kept. Due to improvements in film technology and recordkeeping, few films produced in the 1950s or beyond have been lost. Rarely, but occasionally, films classified as lost are found in an uncataloged or miscataloged archive or private collection, becoming "rediscovered films". Wheeler Oakman
Wheeler Oakman (born Vivian Eichelberger; February 21, 1890 – March 19, 1949) was an American film actor. Early years Oakman was born as Vivian Eichelberger in Washington, D.C., and educated in that city's schools—specifically Henry School and William McKinley Manual Training School—after having spent the bulk of his childhood in Fairfax, Virginia. Career Before acting in films, Oakman was active in Repertory theatre, stock theater in the eastern United States. Oakman appeared in over 280 films between 1912 and 1948. In silent films, he was often a leading man. Among his leading ladies were Priscilla Dean, Kathlyn Williams, Colleen Moore and Annette Kellerman.
