The Garifuna Women's Project
''Umalali: The Garifuna Women's Project'' is musical collection of stories, organized and produced by Ivan Duran. The album is built upon the voices of local women in Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala. The Garifuna people are residents of these countries' Caribbean coasts. Background In the 1600s,shipwrecked West African slaves intermarried with the native Carib/Arawak people on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent and lived there until the 1790s, when most were exiled to Central America by British authorities. Belize

Honduras

Cumbancha is a record label, booking agency and music publisher based in Charlotte, Vermont. The company was founded by ethnomusicologist and music producer Jacob Edgar in 2006. In 2007, Cumbancha Music Publishing was established to expand opportunities for artists, helping them license songs to various movies, television programs, and advertisements, including '' Boyhood'', '' Grey's Anatomy'', and '' High Maintenance.'' Ivan Duran is a music producer and musician, and the founder and director of Stonetree Records, an independent record label and music recording studio based in Benque Viejo del Carmen in Belize. He has produced over 30 albums featuring the musical styles of Belize and the region. Since founding Stonetree in 1995, Duran has been a promoter of Belizean music overseas, attending World Music trade fairs and presenting local artists in music festivals around the world. In 2007 he received the WOMEX award alongside Andy Palacio for their work on the Watina album, voted by Amazon.com as the #1 World Music album of all time.
