The Gardener (2012 Film)
''The Gardener'' (, ''Bāghbān'') is a documentary film by Mohsen Makhmalbaf. It had its Asian premiere at Busan International Film Festival, its European premiere at Rotterdam International Film Festival, and North American premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival. It is the first film in decades to be made by an Iranian filmmaker in Israel. The film has been shown in more than 20 film festivals and won the Best Documentary award from Beirut International Film Festival and the special Maverick Award at the Motovun Film Festival in Croatia. Mohsen Makhmalbaf
Mohsen Makhmalbaf (, ) (born May 29, 1957) is an Iranian film director, writer, film editor, and producer. He has made more than 20 feature films, won 50 awards, and served as a juror in more than 15 major film festivals. His award-winning films include '' A Moment of Innocence'' (1996) and ''Kandahar''. His latest documentary is '' The Gardener'' and latest feature '' The President''. Makhmalbaf's films have been widely presented at international film festivals since the early 21st century. The director belongs to the new wave movement of Iranian cinema. ''Time'' selected Makhmalbaf's 2001 film ''Kandahar'' as one of the top 100 films of all time. Tina Gharavi
Tina Gharavi ( born 1 July 1972) is an Iranian-born British artist, director and screenwriter. She has been nominated for BAFTA and Sundance awards. Her projects explore themes of equality and diversity. Early life and education Gharavi was born in Tehran. She attended high school in New Jersey. She initially trained as a painter in the United States before entering the film industry. Shirin Ebadi
Shirin Ebadi (; born 21 June 1947) is an Iranian Nobel laureate, lawyer, writer, teacher and a former judge and founder of the Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran. Gerald Peary (born October 30, 1944) is an American film critic, filmmaker, editor of the University Press of Mississippi, and a former curator of the Harvard Film Archive. Early life and education Peary graduated from Rider University in 1964, went on to earn an MA in drama from New York University in 1966, and received a Ph.D. in Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1977 with the dissertation, ''The Rise of the American Gangster Film, 1913-1930.''
