The Fabulous Knobs
The Fabulous Knobs is an American rock band formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1978. They were one of the key players in the North Carolina music scene during the 1980s, frequently performing at venues in downtown Raleigh. One contemporary reviewer noted, "With skin-tight rhythms and spare, jangling guitar lines, The Fabulous Knobs play punchy dance music that vacillates between R&B and new wave". Background Future band leader Terry Anderson and David Enloe, both born on Christmas Day 1956 in Southern Pines, North Carolina, met over music, playing recorders in a fourth–grade class at Powell Elementary in Raleigh. Mitchell Blake Easter (born November 15, 1954) is a musician, songwriter, and record producer. Frequently associated with the jangle pop style of guitar music, he is known as producer of R.E.M.'s early albums from 1981 through 1984, and as frontman of the 1980s band Let's Active. Early life Easter was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Ken and Elizabeth (Lib), and became deeply involved in music from an early age. He attended Richard J. Reynolds High School and went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from 1974 until his graduation in 1978. Let's Active was an American rock music, rock group formed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1981, and often identified with the jangle pop guitar work of the group's frontman and songwriter Mitch Easter. After disbanding in 1990, the group reformed in August 2014 to play a benefit show in North Carolina. History Formation (1981–1982) Let's Active was formed in 1981 by Mitch Easter, a guitarist and songwriter best known as a music producer, record producer, with Faye Hunter on bass. Arrogance (band)
Arrogance is a rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In the 1970s and early 1980s, they were considered one of the most popular local bands in the state. All Music Guide stated that Arrogance was “one of the architects of the alternative trend of the 1980s”. Arrogance made a run of appearances at Raleigh's Village Subway, and were the first group to play some chords at the Pier back in 1973. The group has released six full length albums in its history and an early non-LP single. In 1983, the group entered a dormant period, and the members did not perform together again until 2000, when the band reunited for a few select concerts and gigs in the Triangle area in celebration of Arrogance's 30th anniversary. Howard Gerald "Jerry" Clower (September 28, 1926 – August 24, 1998) was an American stand-up comedian. Born and raised in the state of Mississippi, Clower was best known for his stories of the rural South and was given the nickname "The Mouth of Mississippi". Life Clower was born in Liberty, Mississippi, and began a two-year stint in the navy after graduating from high school in 1944. Upon his discharge, in 1946, he was a Radioman Third Class (RMN3) and had earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with two bronze service stars), and the World War II Victory Medal. William "Smokey" Robinson Jr. (born February 19, 1940) is an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive. Eddie Cochran
Ray Edward Cochran ( ; October 3, 1938 – April 17, 1960) was an American rock and roll musician. His songs, such as " Twenty Flight Rock", " Summertime Blues", " C'mon Everybody" and " Somethin' Else", captured teenage frustration and desire in the mid-1950s and early 1960s. Cochran experimented with multitrack recording, distortion techniques, and overdubbing, even on his earliest singles. Cochran played the guitar, piano, bass, and drums.
