''The Diplomat'' is a British political thriller series written by Ben Richards (writer), Ben Richards and directed by Jill Robertson and Jenny Paddon. It stars Sophie Rundle as Laura Simmonds, a diplomat living in Barcelona, Spain, who works to protect several British nationals who find themselves in trouble. The series is produced by BBC Studios and World Productions for Alibi (TV channel), Alibi. It began airing on 28 February 2023. Ben Richards (writer)
Ben Richards (born 1964) is a British screenwriter and novelist. He was the lead writer on ''Spooks'' and is the writer/creator of ''Party Animals, Outcasts, COBRA'' and ''Showtrial''. He also created ''The Tunnel'' from the Scandinavian original of “The Bridge” as well as adapting “The Cuckoo's Calling, ''The Cuckoo’s Calling''," the first in J. K. Rowling, Robert Galbraith’s ''Strike'' series for BBC1. Career Before writing novels and TV dramas, he worked for three years as a housing officer in London Borough of Newham, Newham and London Borough of Islington, Islington, London. Eubha Akilade ( ; born 27 June 1998) is a Scottish actress, dancer, and filmmaker. She is known for her roles as Lily Watson on the CBBC series ''Eve'' (2015–2017) and Ines Le Breton on the Hulu series '' Find Me in Paris'' (2018–2020). Early life Akilade was born on 27 June 1998 in Cathcart, Scotland. She is of Nigerian descent, was born to mother Christine, a Macmillan Cancer Support nurse, and she has a brother and a sister.
