The Deep End (Susanna Hoffs Album)
''The Deep End'' is the fifth solo album by Susanna Hoffs, released on April 7, 2023, on her own Baroque Folk label. It is an album of covers, featuring versions of tracks including "Under My Thumb" by the Rolling Stones and "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore, as well as renditions of songs by contemporary artists including Joy Oladokun, Holly Humberstone, and Dodie. The album was produced by Peter Asher. Hoffs said in an interview with Lily Moayeri of ''Spin'' that she had started work on the album in 2021, after learning that Asher, a producer she admired, was interested in working with her. The choice of tracks on the album includes selections both by Hoffs and by Asher. Susanna Hoffs
Susanna Lee Hoffs (born January 17, 1959) is an American singer and guitarist, best known as a co-founder of the pop-rock band The Bangles. Hoffs founded The Bangles (originally called the Bangs) in 1981 with Debbi and Vicki Peterson. They released their first full length album '' All Over the Place'' on Columbia Records in 1984. Hoffs started a solo career after The Bangles disbanded in 1989. She released her first solo album, ''When You're a Boy'', in 1991. She later formed the faux British 1960s band Ming Tea with Mike Myers and Matthew Sweet. Hoffs has also appeared in a supporting role in several movies. Black Coffee In Bed
"Black Coffee in Bed" was the first single released from Squeeze's fifth album, ''Sweets from a Stranger''. It peaked at number 51 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1982. Background Chris Difford stated, " e lyric was inspired by my picking up my notebook one day and seeing a coffee stain on it, which inspired the first line. It was a very vivid image for me and inspired this song of loss and regret." Difford also said that "lyrically it was attractive to countrykind of metre. The fact that Glenn put a soul melody to it shows the unique quality of our writing." Yazoo (known as Yaz in North America) were an English synth-pop duo from Basildon, Essex, consisting of former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke (keyboards) and Alison Moyet (vocals). "Only You" is a song by English synth-pop duo Yazoo. It was written by member Vince Clarke, while he was still with Depeche Mode, but recorded in 1982 after he formed Yazoo with Alison Moyet. It was released as Yazoo's first single on 15 March 1982 in the United Kingdom, taken from their first album, '' Upstairs at Eric's'' (1982), and became an instant success on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number two on 16 May 1982. Squeeze are an English rock band that came to prominence in the United Kingdom during the new wave period of the late 1970s, and continued recording in the 1980s, 1990s and 2010s.
