The December Group
The December Group (, ''Decembarska grupa'') was a Serbian artistic group founded in Belgrade in 1955. It ceased to exist in 1960. The December Group was opposed to social realism in art, instead preferring abstraction. The group's members were Zoran Petrović, Miloš Bajić, Aleksandar Luković, Lazar Vujaklija, Mladen Srbinović, Aleksandar Tomašević, Lazar Vozarević, Miodrag B. Protić Miodrag B. Belgrade
Belgrade is the Capital city, capital and List of cities in Serbia, largest city of Serbia. Social Realism
Social realism is work produced by painters, printmakers, photographers, writers, filmmakers and some musicians that aims to draw attention to the real socio-political conditions of the working class as a means to critique the power structures behind these conditions. While the movement's characteristics vary from nation to nation, it almost always uses a form of descriptive or critical realism. The term is sometimes more narrowly used for an art movement that flourished in the interwar period as a reaction to the hardships and problems suffered by common people after the Great Crash. In order to make their art more accessible to a wider audience, artists turned to realist portrayals of anonymous workers as well as celebrities as heroic symbols of strength in the face of adversity. Abstract Art
Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a Composition (visual arts), composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. ''Abstract art'', ''non-figurative art'', ''non-objective art'', and ''non-representational art'' are all closely related terms. They have similar, but perhaps not identical, meanings. Miloš Bajić (painter)
Miloš Bajić ( sr-cyr, Милош Бајић; 1915 - 1995) was a Serbian Modernist painter, who is considered to be the founder of abstract painting in Yugoslavia. Early life Miloš Bajić was born in 1915 in Resanovci, a village in the Condominium of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Austria-Hungary (now Bosnia and Herzegovina). In 1922, Bajić moved to Belgrade, the capital of Yugoslavia (now Serbia), where he completed grammar school and teacher school. As a student, he published illustrations and caricatures in the daily ''Politika'' and satirical magazine ''Ošišani jež''. In 1935, Bajić became one of Petar Dobrović's students, finishing his first year in Beta Vukanović's class at the Belgrade School of Arts in 1937. Mladen Srbinović
Mladen Srbinović (Sušica near Gostivar, 29 November 1925 — Belgrade, 12 May 2009) was a Serbian painter, member of the Arts and Sciences academies of Serbia and Macedonia and professor of Belgrade University. Biography Mladen Srbinović was born in 1925 in the village of Sušica near Gostivar in a local Serb family. Srbinovićs moved to Belgrade in 1930 where Mladen finished primary school and high school. He continued his studies at the Art Academy (1947–51) finishing his post-graduate studies in 1953. In the same year he became assistant professor at the Academy, later on becoming a professor and teaching until 1988. His first exhibited his paintings in 1948 and had a solo exhibition in 1952. Later in his career he represented Yugoslavia on many exhibitions abroad. He is one of the founders of the "December Group" (1955). He published two "graphic maps" inspired by the verses of Lorka. Aleksandar Tomašević
Aleksandar Tomašević (Serbian Cyrillic: Александар Томашевић; 19 November 1908 – 21 February 1988) was a Yugoslav football player and manager. Playing career Tomašević was one of the best forwards in the Belgrade clubs in the period before the World War II, the star player of BASK, national team striker and an excellent manager. He started playing in 1925 in SK Jedinstvo Beograd. In 1928, he moved to SK Soko and a year later the club was renamed as BASK where he would stay for eleven years, until 1940, when because of a serious lesion of the meniscus, Tomašević had to stop playing. He is remembered as an excellent technician and a very effective striker. International career Beside 23 matches for the Belgrade City selection, and one match for the Yugoslav B team, Tomašević played 12 matches for the Yugoslavia national football team having scored 8 goals.
