The Death Of A Dictionary
''The Death of a Dictionary'' is the debut album by alternative rock band Public Affection. An EP titled ''Divided Mind, Divided Planet'' followed before the band changed their name to Live. History The album was released in June 1989, when the band members graduated from high school, via their own label, Action Front Records. Just 1,000 copies of the album were made, all on cassette, and it is long out of print. The track "Good Pain" was eventually reworked for inclusion on the first Live EP, '' Four Songs'', and their debut album '' Mental Jewelry.'' Aside from "Good Pain", the remainder of the songs are still only officially available on this cassette, although the album is widely available on the internet via download. Live (, often typeset as LĪVE or +LĪVE+) is an American rock band formed in York, Pennsylvania, in 1984 by Ed Kowalczyk (lead vocals, guitars), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass), Chad Gracey (drums), and Chad Taylor (guitars). Kowalczyk is the only remaining member of this original lineup. The band started to gain attention following their single "Operation Spirit (The Tyranny of Tradition)", the video for which got regular airplay on MTV, and the moderate success of their second album, '' Mental Jewelry''. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. Four Songs (Live EP)
''Four Songs'' is an EP by Live, released in 1991. It is the band's first release under the name Live. They previously released an album titled ''The Death of a Dictionary'' and an EP titled ''Divided Mind, Divided Planet'' under the name Public Affection. Two songs from this EP, "Operation Spirit" and "Good Pain" later appeared on their album ''Mental Jewelry''. The two other songs would later appear as b-sides to the European CD single for "Operation Spirit". In 1994, Live released their second album, '' Throwing Copper''. Both Europe and Australia released 2-CD set editions of the album with ''Four Songs'' as the second disc. The Australian issue of the EP, as part of this set, was labeled as a promotional copy although released in that country in 1991 as a stand-alone EP. The EP was also released on 12-inch vinyl. Mental Jewelry
''Mental Jewelry'' is the second studio album by the band Live—but their first under this name; they had previously released the album ''The Death of a Dictionary'' under the name Public Affection, under which it also released the EP ''Divided Mind, Divided Planet''. Released on December 31, 1991, it is also the band's major label debut. Many of the songs on ''Mental Jewelry'' are based on the writings of Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti. A music video was filmed for "Operation Spirit". The video was filmed when the band were still calling themselves Public Affection. On June 30, 2017, Live announced a reissue of ''Mental Jewelry'' as a two-CD set, with the first CD containing the original album and the three outtakes and the second CD containing a full concert. Cassette and vinyl reissues were also announced. Chad David Taylor (born November 24, 1970, in York, Pennsylvania) is an American guitarist and backing vocalist for the band The Gracious Few and former guitarist for the band Live. Live have sold over 20 million records, including the 8× platinum album ''Throwing Copper''. Career Taylor was the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the band Live and had appeared on all their albums to June 2022. He met his Live bandmates aged 13 in middle school in York, Pennsylvania. When vocalist Ed Kowalczyk left the band in 2009, Taylor formed the band The Gracious Few along with Live bandmates Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Gracey and Kevin Martin and Sean Hennesy from Candlebox. They released their debut album ''The Gracious Few'' in 2010. In 2011, he announced that Live would reform without Kowalczyk. In 2012, Live reformed with new lead singer Chris Shinn.
