The Death Of Mr. Lazarescu
''The Death of Mr. Lazarescu'' () is a 2005 Romanian black comedy film co-written and directed by Cristi Puiu. In the film an old man ( Ioan Fiscuteanu) is carried by an ambulance from hospital to hospital all night long, as doctors keep refusing to treat him and send him away. ''The Death of Mr. Lazarescu'' enjoyed immediate critical acclaim, both at film festivals, where it won numerous awards, and after wider release, receiving enthusiastic reviews. The film is planned to be the first in a series by Puiu called ''Six Stories from the Outskirts of Bucharest''. Cristi Puiu
Cristi Puiu (; born 3 April 1967) is a Romanian film director and screenwriter. With Anca Puiu and Alex Munteanu, in 2004 he founded a cinema production company, naming it Mandragora. Early life, education and career Cristian Emilian Puiu was born to Iuliana and Emilian Puiu in Bucharest, Romania. Puiu's first interest in art was painting. In 1992, he was admitted as a student to the Painting Department of ''École Supérieure d'Arts Visuels'' in Geneva. After the first year he switched to film studies at the same school, where he graduated in 1996. He started working in film after his return to Romania. He is married to Anca Puiu. Cristian Mungiu (; born 27 April 1968) is a Romanian filmmaker. He won the Palme d'Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival for his film '' 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days'', which he wrote and directed. Career Born in Bucharest, Nae Caranfil is the son of Romanian film historian and critic Tudor Caranfil. The cinema of Romania is the art of motion-picture making within the nation of Romania or by Romanian filmmakers abroad. The history of cinema in Romania dates back to the late 19th century, as early as the history of film itself. With the first set of films screened on May 27, 1896, in the building of L'Indépendance Roumanie newspaper in Bucharest. In the Romanian exhibition, a team of Lumière brothers' employees screened several films, including the famous ''L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat''. The next year, in 1897, the French cameraman Paul Menu (an employee of the Lumière brothers) shot the first film set in Romania, ''The Royal parade on May 10, 1897''.
